Mr. Sharad Chandra is a highly accomplished financial professional with a distinguished academic background and a wealth of experience in investment advisory and portfolio management. Holding a Master's degree in Economics from the prestigious Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, along with a Bachelor's degree with honors from Shri Ram College of Commerce, his academic prowess is complemented by a remarkable career spanning several renowned financial institutions. Currently registered as an Investor Awareness Resource with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Mr. Chandra's primary mission is to impart financial knowledge through investment education workshops. His extensive professional journey includes pivotal roles at institutions such as Axis Bank, IDBI Bank, and ILFS Investsmart (later acquired by HSBC), where he excelled in formulating investment strategies, managing portfolios for High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs), and closely tracking equity markets. Mr. Chandra's multifaceted skill set encompasses outstanding communication, strong leadership, and exceptional analytical abilities. Beyond his professional endeavors, he has contributed significantly to the field by teaching at management institutes, assisting in educational material development, and publishing insightful articles in the Economic Times. His comprehensive profile exemplifies a commitment to financial excellence and investor education that sets him apart in the financial industry.
Event Brief: The session started at 3:15 PM, by welcoming the guest Mr Sharad Chandra, by Diasha Paul. Then Balasubramanian gave a brief introduction about the guest speaker. S Themic was handed over to the guest speaker.
Mr Sharad Chandra started his session by asking who all had work experience before joining this course, through which he talked about savings and investment. Then he quoted “DREAM IS A CYCLE OF LIFE”, which had a beautiful meaning highlighting the 3 phases of life. He then spoke about the importance of investing and how one should start, by giving multiple examples and also his own experiences on investments. He presented a slide that showed a graph of how many percentages of people are into investments or even have knowledge of it and many more.
He also quoted “FAILING TO PLAN, IS PLANNING TO FAIL”, and gave a clear idea of how necessary planning is in every decision.
By explaining the importance of investment, and comparing it to our daily life activities Mr Sharad Chandra also spoke about of the risks and returns and different portfolios of insurance and investment. As one wants to invest in a company, he/she should be aware of the market and the prices, Mr Sharad Chandra made it simple for students to understand through the graph of investments of a company (HDFC equity).
He also spoke about market timing and how time in the market is more important than market timing. There was a risk-free portfolio and well-managed portfolio by which students got a clear idea of what amount should be invested based on the profile of the person. Lastly, he spoke about a systematic investment plan, about which he said SIP is like a good EMI.
The session ended at 4:18 pm serving a brief knowledge about financial planning and investment. Mr Sharad Chandra, then cleared the doubts and questions which the students had, which made it an interactive session.
OUTCOMES OF THE EVENT
- Students understood the importance of financial literacy which ultimately helps in personal financial planning.
- Students also learned about various investment avenues and their benefits and drawbacks. The investment options that were covered during the session included Mutual Funds, Bank Deposits, Crypto-currencies, Stock Market.
- Students also learned about various myths that are associated with different investment options
- Lastly the session encouraged students to invest in equity , mutual funds and other forms of investment
