Two Days Professional Workshop on Arbitration, Mediation & Conciliation

The School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a Two-Day Professional Workshop on Arbitration, Mediation & Conciliation on 23rd and 24th February 2026. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Alternate Dispute Resolution and Consultancy Committee (ADRCC), the Placement Committee, and the Centre for Career Planning and Guidance (CPCG). Designed specifically for 8th Semester law students, the programme aimed to provide practical exposure to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms while enhancing the professional skills necessary for the legal industry. The initiative sought to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and the practical application of dispute resolution techniques.

The workshop began with an introductory session that explored the evolution and significance of ADR in the contemporary legal system. Speakers highlighted the growing importance of arbitration, mediation, and conciliation in resolving disputes efficiently while reducing the burden on traditional court systems. The session also addressed the legal framework governing ADR in India and emphasized the increasing reliance on these mechanisms in commercial and civil disputes. Students were encouraged to view ADR not only as a legal process but also as a collaborative approach that promotes dialogue, negotiation, and mutually beneficial outcomes. A key feature of the workshop was its emphasis on experiential learning. The programme incorporated interactive sessions including case study analyses, guided discussions, and simulation-based activities. These exercises helped participants understand the procedural aspects of arbitration and mediation while allowing them to engage actively with real-life dispute scenarios. Students were introduced to the practical skills required to manage negotiations, identify the interests of disputing parties, and develop effective settlement strategies.

The role-play and simulation exercises were particularly impactful, as students were assigned roles such as arbitrators, mediators, and disputing parties. These activities enabled them to experience the dynamics of dispute resolution processes in a controlled learning environment. By participating in these exercises, students developed essential professional skills such as negotiation, communication, critical thinking, and conflict management. The facilitators provided valuable feedback and guidance, helping participants refine their approach and better understand the responsibilities involved in ADR proceedings.

Overall, the two-day workshop proved to be a highly enriching experience for the students. By combining theoretical insights with practical engagement, the programme strengthened participants’ confidence and prepared them for professional practice in the field of dispute resolution. The workshop also reinforced the importance of ADR in modern legal practice and highlighted the need for future legal professionals to possess strong negotiation and problem-solving skills. Through this initiative, the School of Law reaffirmed its commitment to providing industry-oriented learning opportunities that equip students with the competencies required for successful legal careers.
