The Alumni Connect: Industry Insights in Data Analytics session, organized by the School of Business and Management (MBA), Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa, was successfully conducted on 14 March 2026 at 12:30 PM in the Smart Room. The session was delivered by Mr. Debtanu Banerjee, an esteemed alumnus from the PGDM Batch of 2015, currently serving as a Data Analyst at JPMorgan Chase. The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, aiming to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations through meaningful alumni engagement.

The session commenced with a formal welcome address, introducing the speaker and highlighting the significance of alumni-driven learning platforms in higher education. Mr. Banerjee shared his professional journey, reflecting on his transition from academic life at Christ University to a successful career in the banking and financial services sector. His narrative provided students with a realistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the field of data analytics.

A major focus of the session was on the evolving role of data analytics in the banking industry. The speaker elaborated on how financial institutions leverage data-driven decision-making for risk assessment, customer insights, fraud detection, and operational efficiency. He emphasized the growing demand for data professionals and the importance of technical proficiency in tools such as SQL, Python, and data visualization platforms, along with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

In addition to technical competencies, Mr. Banerjee highlighted the importance of soft skills such as communication, adaptability, and continuous learning. He stressed that in a dynamic and competitive job market, students must cultivate a growth mindset and stay updated with industry trends. The session also addressed career pathways in data analytics, providing clarity on roles such as data analyst, business analyst, and data scientist.

The interactive segment of the session allowed students to engage directly with the speaker through questions and discussions. Students raised queries related to internships, skill development, industry certifications, and career progression. The speaker offered practical advice on building a strong resume, preparing for interviews, and leveraging networking opportunities.

The event effectively strengthened the alumni-student relationship, fostering a sense of community and shared learning. It also provided a platform for experiential learning beyond textbooks, enabling students to gain insights into real-world applications of data analytics. The session concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the speaker’s valuable contribution and the efforts of the organizing team.

Overall, the Alumni Connect session was highly impactful in enhancing students’ understanding of industry expectations and equipping them with knowledge and motivation to pursue careers in data analytics.
