The School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, successfully hosted its flagship event, THEMIS – 6th Moot Court Competition, 2026, from March 27 to 29, 2026. The event stood as a testament to the institution’s commitment to fostering legal excellence, advocacy skills, and intellectual engagement among law students at a national level. Over the years, THEMIS has evolved into a prestigious platform for budding legal professionals, and the 2026 edition further strengthened its reputation through high-quality participation and rigorous competition.

The competition featured a significant prize pool of ₹3,00,000, along with individual accolades such as Best Speaker, Best Researcher, and Best Memorial. These awards recognized not only courtroom advocacy but also the depth of legal research and drafting skills, thereby encouraging holistic development among participants. The structure of the competition ensured that students were assessed on multiple facets of mooting, including articulation, analytical ability, teamwork, and written submissions.

The moot proposition for THEMIS 2026 was carefully curated to reflect contemporary legal challenges, focusing on constitutional law, federalism, and data governance. These themes are increasingly relevant in today’s legal landscape, particularly with the rapid advancement of technology and the evolving nature of governance. By engaging with such complex and dynamic issues, participants were encouraged to think critically, apply legal principles innovatively, and develop well-reasoned arguments addressing real-world concerns.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 30 teams representing leading law institutions across India, including more than 10 National Law Universities. This diverse representation highlighted the national stature of the event and provided a platform for students from different academic backgrounds to interact, compete, and learn from one another. The high level of competition ensured a stimulating environment where participants could test their skills against some of the best law students in the country.

The preliminary and quarter-final rounds were adjudicated by a panel of experienced faculty members and practicing advocates from across India. Their expertise ensured fair and insightful evaluation, providing participants with valuable feedback to refine their advocacy techniques. The semi-final rounds were judged by distinguished legal professionals, including Md Zafar Imam, former Principal Judge and former Presiding Officer of the Debt Recovery Tribunal, and Pankaj Kapoor, Director of Quadrant Legal. Their presence added immense value to the competition, as participants benefited from their practical insights and extensive experience in the legal field.

The final round of the competition was adjudicated by an eminent panel comprising Justice Ashim Kumar Roy, former High Court Judge and former Lokayukta; Prof. (Dr.) Jyotsna Yagnik, former Principal Judge and Pro Vice-Chancellor; and Prof. (Dr.) Subir Kumar Roy, Professor and former Officiating Registrar of a State University. The distinguished judges brought a wealth of judicial and academic experience, ensuring a rigorous and intellectually enriching final round. Their probing questions and detailed evaluation tested the participants’ legal knowledge, clarity of thought, and courtroom demeanor.

At the conclusion of the competition, National Law University, Jodhpur emerged as the winner, demonstrating exceptional advocacy and research skills throughout the rounds. The Institute of Law, Nirma University secured the runner-up position, showcasing commendable performance and consistency. The achievements of these teams reflected the high standards of the competition and the dedication of the participants.

The event concluded with a grand valedictory ceremony graced by the presence of former Chief Justice of India, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit. His presence added prestige to the occasion and served as an inspiration for all participants. THEMIS 2026 ultimately concluded on a high note, successfully fostering legal acumen, advocacy skills, and academic excellence, while providing a meaningful and enriching experience for law students across the country.
