International Symposium on Current Trends in Research and Innovation (ISCTRI’20) was organized by the Department of Data Science, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa campus- The Hub of Analytics in technical association with Computer Society of India (CSI) on 29th August 2020. The symposium focused on topics related to various security use-cases regarding machine learning and Artificial Intelligence. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Bhanumathi K S, who is the Former DRDO Scientist and the speakers were: Dr. Balaji Rajendran and Dr. Mohammed Misbahuddin.

The event officially commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Samiksha Shukla, HOD, Dept of Computer Science, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa campus) followed by the inaugural address by Dr. Fr. Jossy P. George, Director and Dean of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa, Pune Campus. In his speech, Dr. Fr. Jossy focused on the emergence of computerization and the revolution that is happening in and around the world. He also extended his views on how technology can be exploited to reduce corruption in today’s world that eventually results in a better nation.

The opening remark was delivered by Dr. Bhanumathi KS, the chief guest for the symposium. She is the Senior Technology Evangelist at Kovair Software, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. She gave insightful information about how Data science is emerging in India. She also spoke about the digitization that is happening in our country and how it is creating a load of opportunities for data scientists. In the end, she gave an insight into how data scientists have the scope in the research field. With her years of practical experience in various domains, she guided the audience insisted researchers on how to think out of the box to have a successful career.

The First session was conducted by Dr. Balaji Rajendran, Joint Director at C-DAC Bangalore. He is also leading the Centre of Excellence in DNS Security and national level project effort for developing Next Generation Smart Applications enabled with electronic trust. The session included insights on “Emerging Trends & Use cases of Live Streaming”. He, in brief, explained about the types of live streaming and conferencing. He further discussed the protocols like MPC, SMPC, HLS, WebRTC, which are used in conferences. He then moved to the Concurrent broadcasting architecture and explained the useS of VR in video conferencing. He also gave information about telepresence, holographic streaming, and volumetric video capturing. In the end, he concluded his session with the estimation of parameters like latency, security & privacy, scalability, and realistic experiences in all the discussed protocols and streaming technologies.

The second session was led by Dr. Mohammed Misbahuddin on “Use cases of Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML): A Cyber Security Perspective. He began by discussing about the role of AI and ML in Cyber Security, cybersociety, and how the internet usage in India has evolved with time. He explained the major risks and threats to the computer, which are virus, worms, and trojans. Further, he discussed the Cybercrime rate rise in India in recent years. Information about the authentication systems, risk-based authentication, classification, and risk engine was also put forward by him. Towards the end, he spoke about the identity theft, deep web & dark web, data sale online, and minimizing the time, working of Intrusion Detection System(IDS) and its types. The concluding remarks were delivered by Fr. Jossy P George, Director and Dean, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa campus wherein he mentioned about the need for more such symposiums and make the students as well as research scholars conscious of the trends in the field of research and innovation.

Ms. Ruchika Rai (Dept of Data Science) proposed the word of gratitude to all the guest speakers, resource persons, faculty members, staff and attendees of the symposium for the smooth conduct of the event. She also extended word of reverence to the technical team who worked hard for the success of ISCTRI’20.

The symposium, held in association with CSI, was an enriching experience that brought academic fraternity as well as researchers together to share their ideas on research in the field of data science with the audience from diverse domains.
