NATIONAL VIRTUAL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION
(August, 18 2020- August, 20 2020)

Following the inauguration of Fete de La Nomos 2020, National Virtual Law Fest. Student bar association along with the organizing committee of ‘Fete De La Nomos 2020’ conducted a virtual Mock Trial competition that invited participants from across the nations. The competition was based on a mock trial problem drafted by Chhavi Pathak and Lavanya Garg and was vetted by Adv. Ameya Kadkade. It dealt with the intricacies of criminal law with regard to conspiracy, murder, and rules of evidence. All the students of School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Lavasa came together as witnesses, court moderators, etc to ensure that the 3-day event went about smoothly. 

Rev. Fr. Dr. Jossy George Dean and Director CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Lavasa inaugurated the event. This event was under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Daisy Alexander, Head of the Department School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Lavasa and the faculty members Ms. Amrutha Valavi, Ms. Mehak Vohra and Dr. Sunil John worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth progression of events and was always ready to fix any and all problems arising during the competition from dealing with technical glitches to logistical errors as the 24 teams from law schools across the country competed to win the mock trial competition. 

The Mock Trial competition commenced with a procedural test moderated & recorded by Prateek Kanavi, followed by three Preliminary rounds, Quarter finals, Semi finals and Finals. The Rounds were judged by eminent Advocates, Solicitors from High Court of Bombay, various Law firms and Trial Court Judges. They were Adv. Ameya Kadkade Independent Legal Consusltant; Adv. Prashant Pandharikar from the chamber of Adv. Madhusudhan Pareek,; Harsh Buch Sr. Associate MZM Legal; Vikram Kamat Sr. Associate Legasis partners, Advoctes & Solicitors; Ahtesham Thaver Sr. Associate ALMT; Ooril Panchal Sr. Associate Mahimtura & Co. Advocates & Solicitors; Vikramjit Garewal Counsel at Chambers of Mayur Khndeparkar, Robin Fernandes Partner at Vesta Legal; Solicitor Kamlesh Kharade Partenr India law Alliance, Solicitor Kamni Ahuja Independent Legal Consultant; Kavisha Shah Sr. Associate India Law Alliance; Adv. Farhan Khan Senior Lawyer, Adv. Archana Uppuluri at Zerick Dastur Advocates & Solicitors, Adv. Ruju Thaker Advocate and Counsel Bombay High Court, Adv. Richa Pachori, High Curt of Bombay, Adv. Siddharth Jaiswal High Court of Bombay; Dharaini Ba, Civil Judge Junior Division, Madras, Janggoulen Haokip Civil Judge (Sr. Div.)/CJM, Manipur.

The case revolved around conspiracy, murder and circumstantial evidence. The students of the department came together as Court Clerks and Witnesses to ensure efficient conduct on a virtual platform. Twenty four teams participated from 24 different law colleges in India. Prizes were awarded under the heads of Best Team, Runners up and Best Speaker; Certificate of Accomplishment were given to Finalists, Semi- Finalists, Quarter Finalists. Every participant was given a Certificate of Participation. A consolidated prize money of Rs 10,000/- was awarded to the winners. At the finals, participants Rahul and Suvedya from Damodar Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam were awarded the Best Team, participants from NLC, Pune bagged Runners-up and Simarjit, student from New Law College, Pune was titled as the Best Speaker.

  1. Mock Trial is a competition in which students simulate a real trial. The trial concerns an official AMTA case that remains the same through the entire academic year. The case alternates between a civil and a criminal case every year.
