XUBRENZ 2022

The event was spread across two days i.e. 28th January 2022 and 29th January 2022 in CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. The event accepted registrations from participants belonging to MBA, B Com, BBA and Engineering courses. The event had a total of 200 registrations from 50 plus colleges of which 10 colleges competed for the overall trophy called ‘The Resurgence’ trophy. 

The event was hosted by Himakshi Gupta and Aditya Pillai. It began with a ‘lighting the lamp’ ceremony followed by an address by Dean and Director Dr Fr Jossy P George. A welcome song was sung by Shrestha Bhowmik, an MBA final year student. The participants were then guided to their respective meeting links where they could participate in the events registered for. A brief summary of the events and the round within them is given below: 

Best Manager – The Subortus

The best manager event had 14 participants. Round 1 was conducted on the Kahoot app that included 20 questions based on current affairs and participants had 10 seconds to answer the questions. 

The second round name was Shipwreck, a light round filled with questions and answers. The participants had to act like famous personalities given to them. The participants were asked to convince the captain as to why they should be provided with the life jacket (a topic to be selected). It was. The captains cross-questioned the personalities based on the work they have done to date. 

The third round was an overnight task where the participants, in a group of 2, were asked to prepare a 5 minutes’ PowerPoint presentation on a company called Lokia, where the brand disappeared and now it was taken over by some other company.  The participants were asked to present various strategies to enter the Indian market. 

They were asked to present the following parameters: industry analysis, SWOT, a summary of the product, marketing plan, HR plan, operational plan, budget, investment, and profit margin analysis. The judge for the round was Adi Raheja. The participants were cross-questioned by the judge. The participants were asked to design one advertisement of their product and to promote their product on the Xubrenz Instagram page. For the final round, out of 14 participants, top 5 participants were shortlisted based on the points of the previous rounds. The top 5 participants were Team Hercules, Team Rawhide, Team Pegasus, Team Triton and Team Andrumeda. The judges for the final round were Dr Becky Thomas, Utsavi Bhatia and Arpan Ganguly. In this round, the participants had to speak for and against a given topic. The time limit was 3 minutes followed by a Q & A session. At the end of the 4th round, every participant had to respond to “WHY SHOULD I DESERVE TO BE THE BEST MANAGER”.

Best Management Team – Renaissance Equipo

Eleven colleges participated in the event that consisted of activities from all the specializations like marketing, finance, and HR.

Round one was ‘Invento Spin Off’ that included an activity where participants had to come up with a product promoting sustainability. Participants had to make a presentation and discuss the 7 P’s of marketing and come up with a tagline and a logo. In the marketing domain, round two was ‘Go Digital’. Participants had to make their social media account and promote their product which they had come up in the 1st round. Round three was named ‘Protero’ where a banned product was given to the participants and they had to come up with justifications as to why it should not have been banned. The participants had to redevelop a new user-friendly product by revamping it and had to explain the benefits through a presentation or an infographic. The next round consisted of a case study called 'Case Revivere' where a detailed case study was given to the participants. The participants had to analyze the case study and develop the solutions.


Participants were ranked based on their team participation, time management, communication skills, and presentations submitted by them. 'Balancio’ was the activity from the finance domain for round five. The committee organized an activity where participants had to convince the investors to invest in their sustainable product or service, create a sponsorship pitch, and plan a budget. The team that managed to convince the judge to invest in their product or service was graded the highest. Round six was the HR Stress Interview ‘Oasis’, around that expected participants to handle the questions strategically. There were two breakout sessions where a case study was provided to each team that described a breach of data from their company’s site and participants had to defend the situation because the data was easily accessible to people. Round seven was ‘Cambio’ were the best out of two teams had to compete for the only platform to promote their product. Each team was given three chances to pitch their points and their points were carried forward to the next round. Round eight of the Best Management Team was called 'Night Task’. The activity focused on the task wherein participants had to create a 30-second video advertising the product given to them earlier and upload it on Instagram. The teams were evaluated on the basis of delivery of the message, effectiveness of the advertisement and its relevance in today’s time. 

Lastly, around named ‘Ultimo’ was conducted, where the participants had to work on the required details on day first and next day, present them to the judge, Prof. Becky Thomas. This was a parallelly run activity that kept the participants on their toes. The participants had to create sustainable products and promote them on social media. 

Business Plan: Plan Lazarus 

Eight colleges participated in the event. Round one was a Kahoot quiz (Let's Warm You Up that had 25 questions about identifying the brands' logo. Round two was a 'Rise Up' activity for 40 minutes in the marketing domain. Participants had to create a word document about the business idea to revive a company NOKIA, gravely affected by the dynamic environment. 

Round three was Browse Battle. Participants had to read Obelix/Asterisks, analyze the critical deliverable pointers and showcase the output in the business canvas model. In round four, participants were required to prepare a PPT focusing on STP, 4P's / 7P's, PESTLE, and Porters Model. Brownie points were given for unique marketing tactics. 'Crazy Kicks Creative' was the activity for round five. Participants had to create an advertisement on Nokia and the time limit for advertisement was 40 seconds. 


Business Quiz: Biznes Rinascita 

This event had18 teams that participated in this event. 

Round one was a direct question round. Each team was asked 3 questions each and 10 points were given for each correct answer. Round two was a “Memory game”. In this round, each team was given 10 options and 30 seconds after which they were asked a question. They were given 15 seconds to answer. Each correct answer fetched the team 20 marks and negative 10 for wrong ones. 

Round three was called “Horizontal Merging”. The teams were given a company and they had to find another company that merged with the given company. Each team was given 30 seconds to answer with 50 points for direct questions and 25 points for the pass. The fourth round was “Deal or No Deal”. The teams were provided with questions and clues. The team members had to negotiate within themselves and make a deal to get more clues. Each answer carried 100 points. If the deal happened and if the answer was wrong, then half of the score was deducted. After the 4th round, 5 teams with the lowest scores were eliminated.

Round 5 was called “3 Patti”. In this round, each team was given a hypothetical situation regarding a business that was a failure. They were also given 3 clues to guess the company correctly. The teams were given 50, 25, 10 points depending upon the clues taken. After the 5th round, 5 more teams were eliminated with the lowest scores. The final round was “Case Lets”. 

In this round, the remaining 5 teams were given with case let based questions about different job roles from different domains. Each correct answer carried 10 points. The event was very interactive and informative at the same time. 

Marketing Event: Emporia Preparando 

The event had 19 registered teams. 

In round one, the teams had to choose either a GD or Micro presentation for the topics that were provided and were later made to present it within breakout sessions. 

In round two ‘Caller Tune’, participants were made to sell the product Erval, Herbal Soaps and were provided with product details like price etc. The participants had to then convince callers to buy their products. Round three, ‘Deal or no Deal,’ put participants’ negotiation skills to a real test. Each team was given a budget of Rs. 10,000 as the capital amount for purchasing the raw material for the shampoo from different suppliers. The teams were then provided with contact details of various suppliers along with the expected quotations from the suppliers. Each team had to call the suppliers and make a deal with them at the least price possible. In the end, the team had to present their expected profits by clearly mentioning their costs, margins, and mark-up along with profits

Round four, ‘Sheild Your Design,’ had a controversial advertisement given to each team. The situation given to them was, “Imagine you are working as a public relations officer in your firm for the past 10 years and you have been a major part in the company's advertising team, you are expected to defend your idea to the media on the advertisement which had created a controversy and come up with a solution for the same.” The participants had to defend their idea within 2 minutes. The fifth round was ‘Treasure Hunt’ that was split into 4 sub-rounds Jingle Bells, Guess the Ad, Connections, the “I” have it. Each of the groups had to select one representative who would answer and send their responses privately in the chatbox with their group numbers. 

Audio of advertisements was played and the teams had to identify the product. In the round, six aspiring marketers from India pitched their products to a panel of investors and persuaded them to invest money in their idea. Each team had to make a presentation on the products that were chosen by them during the night task, and the same had to be presented to the panellist.

The presentation had to contain the following – product details, 4P's of the product, external factor analysis, product selling strategy, channels of distribution/ distribution partners and a jingle for the advertisement.

Finance Event: Finanza Ritorno 

This event had 18 teams.

Round one was ‘Luck by Chance’ that consisted of 6 Slots i.e., 30 Questions in two parts. The participants were asked to select any number ranging from 200-400-600-800-100 which had questions relating to various financial segments and they were marked accordingly. In round two, ‘The Visual Connect,’ the participants had to guess the name of the personality based on the various visual cues displayed on the screen. The team that guessed the answer first were awarded the maximum score. The visuals included various famous personalities like Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Vijay Kedia, Rana Kapoor, Raghuram Rajan etc. In round three ‘Business Scenario,’ the participants have to come up with a start-up idea and discuss the same with their group members after which each team presented the idea to a panel of judges followed by a stress interview. Round four called ‘Think tank’ had participants solve an economic problem in a certain time frame and present the same to a panel of judges, followed by a question-and-answer session. Round five ‘Reanimation’ had Football Auction where participants from various teams had to bid for their favourite players from various football clubs. The round was very exciting as various teams competed against each other to emerge victoriously.

Human Resource Event: Fawxus '22

This event had 22 teams participating from 18 colleges. 

Round one was the ‘Draw and Guess’ game where the participant had to guess what is being drawn by the other participant of the same team which gave an insight into different management words. Round two ‘’Design to shine’’ had participants design a recruitment poster with a job description and job specification. Teams had to make posters on a given case and had to submit the same in the google classroom and had to be presented to the judges by making breakout sessions. After round 2, 9 teams were eliminated. Round three called “Re-establish yourself” was all about solving a situation. A time-bound repatriate plan was given to the participants to be presented.  Round four called ‘’Retain rection” is comprised of a situation-based event where the participants had to analyze the situation and act out a role play. Round five ‘’Analytimania’’ had participants solve a situation as an HR analyst to lay off 600 employees due to destruction from natural calamities. Teams were given a data set and had to be worked on. After round 5, 3 teams got eliminated. Round Six, the final round, comprised of a case given to participants for which they had to prepare a video for 2 min followed by a stress interview.

Analytical and Operations Event: Tabula Rasa

The analytical and operations event had activities related to analytical visualization and operational skills. It started with the first round where barcodes had to be scanned by each team after getting their first question.  In order to go to the second level, they had to answer one question each. In the second round, one member from each team was required to log in to Kahoot where they have to answer 45 questions based on analytical knowledge and concepts of business analytics. In the third round, every team had to face two sub-rounds related to visualization on the basis of the dataset given to them. Round four was the night task that involved budgeting. 


The participants were expected to take on the role of a trusted friend helping to create a budget and make an important financial decision. Participants had to analyze current spending and create a budget as well as suggestions for how to manage a variety of financial stressors. Round five was the case study that participants had to analyze and give answers to. The last round was visualization where all the insights derived were taken from the provided data set itself. On the basis of their interpretation, they had to visualize it and draw inferences.

Cultural: Eastertide 

Renatus saltator

In total, there were 15 teams. 

Round1 GROOVE'EM! was a fun ice-breaking round. Here, participants were requested to select the no. from 1 to 15 and as per the no. the song was provided to them. The task was that they had to dance to a song chosen by them. 

Round 2 YIN YANG: Here participants were requested to choose a number from 1 to 15 to be provided with a track. In this round, participants were handed over western tracks which they had to incorporate with a folk dance style of their choice. 

In round3 UNBOX THE UNKNOWN participants were asked to work overnight where they had to choose a random coupon which would unveil a very rare dance form. Participants had to prepare a dance of the style assigned to them with a song of their choice. 

Jingle Book

The Jingle Book (instrumental event) was an event that gave a platform to the participants to showcase their musical talents. There were 6 colleges participating in this event.

 The entire Jingle Book consisted of 3 rounds, the first round was “Exclusively Classical” where the participants had to come up with classical music using their instruments. The second round was “Our Beat Your Note” in which participants were given a rhythm and asked to improvise. The final round was “Make Your Own Muse” where the participants had to come up with their own composition and properly written music notation. 

Notes by the Soul

This event had 20 teams from different colleges. 

It started with round one, “Shrill the Grill.” The participants were asked to upload a minimum of 3 minutes of video singing in any language associating the color “blue.” In round two, “Vie with the Voice” the participants were required to sing a pop song. There had to be something of the color “red” in the video submitted by the participants.  In round three, “Liberetto Lasngna” the finalists were given a song by the event in charge and had to sing their own composition. The finalists were asked to wear something in color “black”.  

Marriage of Words

The poetry event had a total of 8 participants. 

The first round was ‘Theme Your Thoughts’ where participants were instructed to compose a poem on the theme of resurgence. The second round was ‘Remove Your Mask’ that allowed participants to choose a number with different emotions and they were supposed to create a poem with the given emotion. The third round was ‘Follow the Letter’ where each participant was assigned an alphabet they were supposed to start with and end with. The final round was ‘Heavenly Hymns of Holy Book’ wherein participants had to compose a poem based on any part of the holy book. 

The Xubrenz event ended with a valedictory ceremony that was hosted by Sebin Saji and Nidhi Ann Francis. It ceremony began with a welcome dance by Renisha Geraldin followed by Dr Fr. Arun Anthony addressing the audience. The editorial team of Xubrenz had prepared an after the movie that was played during the ceremony. The winners and runners for the various events were announced. A majority of the winners belonged to St. Joseph College, Bangalore making them the winners of the overall college trophy i.e. ‘The Resurgence’ trophy. The winner of the star event – The Best Manager Event was Mrinal Pradeep from ISBR College, Bangalore. 

The event was provided sponsorship by companies like Heal-U, AJ Supply Tech and ActionEdge (platinum sponsor). 

 The Xubrenz event ended on a high note where verbal positive feedback was received from most of the participants. A feedback form was also rolled out to gather feedback. Participation certificates were provided to the participants along with prize money and certificates to winners and runner ups. Winners of the Best Manager and Overall trophy received their trophies.
