WEBINAR ON ‘KICK START YOUR CAREER IN DATA SCIENCE’
The Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a Webinar on 'Kick Start your Career in Data Science' on 16th February 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM. Mr Dhaval Patel (Youtuber, 500k subscribers, Software Engineer, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Princeton, New Jersey, United States) was the resource person for the webinar. Mr Dhaval Patel, an experienced person in Data science with industry experience of more than seven years, is an avid Youtuber and career advisor, enlightened the viewers on data science and different careers in the respective field. He distinguished it from other various similar courses, namely software engineering and data analytics.
The webinar began with a warm welcome wherein Ms Kritica Bisht introduced the speaker. Following this, Mr Patel commenced his talk by sharing a presentation. He articulated how a grocery store owner uses IBM developer and demographic analysis to predict where to set up the company's chain to gain profits maximally.
He described the extensive usage of excel in this field to manage structured and unstructured data. Various programming languages like SQL, BI Tools, R, Python, Machine Learning are used to work upon the raw figures. Data warehousing is where data engineers use open-source tools to extract, transform, and load ETL. The data engineer maintains the data infrastructure, and cross-analysis of the data is done by a data analyst. Data scientists do the predictive analysis using data cleansing, visualization, R, python, or panda.
Mr Dhaval said the two most used programming languages: R and python. He explained that Artificial intelligence is a broader discipline that encompasses machine learning. The speaker recommended that the viewers focus tremendously on their soft skills instead of entirely giving their attention to tools skills. He described how domain knowledge is essential.
According to his personal experiences, he advised the viewers to have an analytical and predictive mindset and good communication skills to develop a unique accomplishment in demand. The seminar continued with a small question-answer session where participants asked their doubts, and Mr Patel answered them, clarifying any doubts. Mr Patel concluded the webinar by saying, "Approach work as if it is your own and develop a spirit of learning and problem-solving.
