PANEL DISCUSSION OF UNION BUDGET 2022-23

The Economics Club of the Department of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus – 'The Hub of Analytics' hosted a Panel Discussion on the Union Budget 2022-23 on 17th February 2022, Thursday. The Panel Discussion on the Union Budget was conducted online to discuss the benefits to be gained and the potential shortcomings of the budget announced in the Lok Sabha on 1st February 2022. The event saw the active participation of students from students and faculty of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa.


A panel discussion flagged off by three renowned academicians- Prof H K Pradhan, Professor, XLRI-Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, Prof Parmod Kumar, Director, Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow and Prof K Gayathri, Professor, Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. The event was coordinated by Dr Kedar Vishnu and Dr Pooja Batra, and other economics faculty members from the Dept. of Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa.

Mr Mohit Sharma from MSc (Economics and Analytics) and Ms Vidhi BSc (Economics and Analytics) the MCs for the event. The event began with Dr Pooja Batra welcoming the audience and the panellists. Dr Fr Jossy George, The Dean and Director, delivered the presidential address of the event. He was followed by Dr Samiksha Shukla, Head of the Department, who spoke a few words about Panel Discussion on the Union Budget 2022-23. As the session progressed, the invited speakers addressed the attendees with differing views on Union Budget 2022-23.


Prof H K Pradhan of XLRI-Xavier School of Management Jamshedpur started the panel discussion by addressing the gathering. He talked about the need for Fiscal policy during the COVID-19 situation and welcomed the government for increasing the expenditure on capital. The second panellist Prof Pramod Kumar took to the podium, where he briefed the gathering regarding the specific allocations made in the 2022 budget.

As a qualified agriculture economist, more emphasis was given to the agricultural portions of the budget and the sector's size in other countries. He showed the performance of various macroeconomic indicators. Prof K Gayathri, the final panellist, highlighted the emphasis on skill development in the budget. She also emphasized the decline in the economy even before the lockdown implications. Dr Pooja Batra moderated the panel discussion.

Following the conclusion of the panel's discussions, a series of questions were asked to the panellist who shared their opinions on them. Dr Kedar Vishnu delivered the vote of thanks, thus ending the exciting programme.


It was an enlightening and enriching Session. The guest speaker had vivid illustrations and critical points to bring into focus. The students and participants were presented with thought-provoking aspects of the Budget 2022-2023. The panel discussion was intuitive and informative with the participants.
