Zero-week (MBA 2022)
The MBA Zero week is a Bridge cum foundation course conducted by the School of business management – MBA for first-year students before starting academic classes. It orients the students to the foundation courses to bridge the gap between UG and PG courses.
Day 1:
The event started with the Dean and Director, Rev. Father Jossy P. George and MBA faculty members lighting the lamp, followed by a prayer. Rev. Father Jossy P George addressed the students and explained the university's culture, rules and regulations, placement and commencement of classes for the MBA 2022 batch. The university anthem concluded the orientation event of the morning session.
Later, the orientation event started with a talk by the Academic Coordinator, Father Justin P Varghese. He spoke about the vision and mission of the university. The batch was divided into smaller groups of 10 people in 8 groups. The teams were assigned to do a tabloid of Mission of Christ University, and other teams were assigned to do a tabloid of core values of Christ University.
MBA faculty members conducted the afternoon session on accounting basics. Dr Shrutika and Prof Mohit talked about the difference between the traditional and modern approaches to accounting. They concluded the class by reminding us to follow the rules and regulations of the university.
Day 2:
A visiting faculty from Binghampton University Dr Hiroki Sayama, interacted with the students from 2.30 PM - 4.30 PM. This was an informative session on Complex Modelling and various decision tools. Prof Hiroki described machine learning and its scope. He introduced the students to a new term ‘Black Swan,’ a theory that refers to random and unexpected events that are difficult to predict in the ordinary course of business.
He also explained the various modelling and sampling techniques. The modelling techniques can be broadly classified into mechanistic mode and agent-based modelling. In mechanistic modelling, we use a theory to make a prediction. In contrast, agent-based modelling is a computational model for simulating autonomous agents' actions and interactions to understand the system's behaviour.
Day3:
The third day of the orientation started with an introduction to statistics which plays an important role throughout the management programme. Dr Danish Hussain gave a briefing about statistics, measures of central tendency, and dispersion.
Dr Richa carried out the next session. She walked through the effective steps of business communication. After the lunch break, Dr Akhil M Nair and Prof. Shynu Phillips conducted a cultural fest and event session, followed by a briefing about IT and Knowledge. The session ended with Library details from Praveen Kumar Vaidya.
Day 4:
The fourth day started with a session by the Head of the Department, Dr Becky Thomas. She explained to the students the academic standards every Christite must follow. Prof Jerin Jose explained the case study methodology and the importance of the case study analysis required in the corporate scenario. Prof Jobin Jacob helped the students understand their personality traits and its development process. Dr Anshul taught the basics of excel. Then the team-building exercise was conducted by Dr Sharad Gupta and Dr Richa. He conducted different activities which taught us the importance of working in groups.
Day 5:
The 5th day of orientation started with Prof. Jerin Jose, who provided us with a case study in which the students were asked to analyse and present their points of view as different groups. Since it was our first time doing a case study, he helped us by explaining the whole case through a presentation.
Prof. Stanny Dias described ten Principles of Economics and its application. Prof Monica from the examination department briefed the students about the CIAs, ESEs, malpractices, backlogs and detention, etc. Ms Maria Joseph’s session was on the CSA, a committee that organises various social activities to help the underprivileged with resources. The session emphasised the importance of social activities and how volunteering in such activities can help the students grow holistically.
Day 6:
The first session was taken by Prof Anshul. He discussed the assignment to brush up Conditional formatting, filter, sort etc. He also described automation while using Excel. During the statistics session, Prof Danish explained the Mean, Standard deviation, Variance, and Scales. The session on Management information systems by Dr Jayant Mahajan related to the Basics of Computer, covering topics such as RAM, ROM, hard disc, SSD, LAN, WAN, etc. Furthermore, he discussed Operating systems, cloud computing, storage capacity and processing capacity, open source, and Proprietary Software etc.
Each session concluded with a Q& A session and feedback.
