Rupika Analyses Money Matters

Rupika strongly believes that “An Investment in Knowledge pays the best interest”. The activities of the club are progressing and getting more and more interesting day by day. 6th March 2019 ie. the fourth day had a lot in store for the students of Christ Institute of Management, Lavasa.

Rupika hosted two events today as part of the valedictory. The first was Vyapar, which was designed as an online trading platform for commodities and real estate. The four teams, The Bankers, The Stakeholders, The Accountable and the The Insiders were each allotted Rs. 25 crore and they competed against each other for the most lucrative assets. The game simulated the commodity and property markets and exposed participants to the challenges of speculation. Mock stock was quite interesting and engaging. The students who wished to know about the nuances of trading were familiarized with the concept through various virtual platforms. It gave them an insight into the work ethics of actual market work.

The second event was Money House, an event designed around banking. There were two rounds namely Depositor round and Loan round The teams vied for deposits from investors in the way a bank does and then lent the funds to borrowers. Teams had to price their deposits and loans and come up with their own interest rates. The difference between the cost of deposits and the return on loans given was their profit. Similarly, in the loan round they were provided with a set of loan applications with different ratings and were entitled to select any number of loan applications. The team with the maximum profit was the clear cut winner.

The events were indeed quite challenging and the students applied theoretical knowledge in a practical situation to gain an edge over the other teams. The event design brought into the classroom the everyday problems faced by banks.
