Christ, Lavasa Celebrates Womanhood

On Monday, 9th March 2020 the students of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa and the volunteers of CSA celebrated International Women’s Day by conducting awareness sessions and programs for the student community as well as for the female housekeeping staff members. The event was rightly named as ‘URJA’, which refers to the aura of positive energy that women exhibit and the theme opted for this year was ‘Women’s Health’. In coordination with the theme, menstrual hygiene was taken into consideration and the students were asked to distribute sanitary napkins among the female housekeeping staff. The response from the student community was positive and everyone contributed for such a noble cause irrespective of any gender. The entire collection was distributed among 33 housekeeping staff during the awareness program.

The programs were conducted in two sessions. The morning session was held in the Central Block quadrangle at 10:15am and it began with a song by Rabjot Singh. Sandhya Balaji and Siva Tejaswini briefed them about some current social issues and Neeraja Narayanan delivered a speech on this occasion. It was followed by a serious presentation in the form of a street play by team Nazariya on ‘Domestic violence and Marital Rape’.

The evening session was held in the Management Block Amphitheatre at 3:00pm in the evening. It was specifically conducted for the female housekeeping staff members. The entire event was held in Hindi and Marathi for efficient and effective communication, proper awareness and better understanding by the housekeeping staff.

An interactive fun filled game was conducted by Sakshi and Harsha followed by an introduction on women’s health by Satarupa Goswami. These sessions elevated the awareness of the staff members. A street play was also presented by team Nazariya and then sanitary napkins were distributed among the female housekeeping staff members. The evening ended on a cheerful note when students and housekeeping staff danced with joy. The students were able to showcase the role of a woman in a community and as members of a community one must cherish their place in society and acknowledge their role.
