Echoes of the Past: Exploring the Intersection of Memory, Culture, and History

As part of the MA programme’s engagement with memory studies and cultural space, an onsite visit was organised to a ruined house of historical and cultural significance. The visit aimed to enable students to examine how memory operates within lived and abandoned spaces, and how such sites function as repositories of collective, cultural, and historical narratives. The ruined structure, marked by visible decay and layered architectural traces, provided a compelling context for exploring the relationship between memory, space, and identity beyond textual sources. One of the primary objectives of the visit was to trace collective and cultural memory embedded within sites of historical significance. The Focus Photography Exhibition, held on 15 November 2025 at Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa, stood as a vibrant celebration of creativity, visual storytelling, and artistic exploration. Organized by the university’s Photography Club in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Learning (CDL), the exhibition showcased the immense talent and diverse perspectives of the university community. With more than 150 entries from students and staff, the event became one of the largest and most engaging visual arts showcases held on campus in recent years. The exhibition aimed to provide an open platform for emerging photographers to express their imagination, technical skill, and storytelling depth through the lens. Author Appreciation Day Celebration (Creative Writing Workshop)

The Department of English and Cultural Studies hosted a Creative Writing workshop on 10th December 2025 from 11 AM to 1 PM. The session was hosted by Ms Sucharita Dutta-Asane, a Sahitya Akademi Award Nominee, the Managing Editor at Red River Story and an esteemed member of the Department’s Advisory Board. The workshop was held in honour of both the author Mulk Raj Anand as well as Gender Sensitivity Week and focused on Anand’s portrayal of women, gender identities and roles in his works. This thematic convergence allowed the workshop to explore creative writing not merely as an artistic act but also as a reflective and socially conscious practice. Anand’s literary contributions, especially his empathetic portrayal of women and marginalized identities, provided a meaningful foundation for the discussions and activities planned for the day.
