Glitzy Retro Soiree; Fresher’s Party

The first-year MA English with Digital Humanities students at Christ University Lavasa Campus were warmly welcomed into the department with a vibrant and fun-filled freshers’ party, "Glitzy Retro Soirée," on the 11th of September 2024. The event took place from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the management block smart room; it was a delightful evening that celebrated the new academic year, bringing together both freshers and second-year students for a night of excitement, laughter, and bonding.

The event started with an engaging activity to break the ice between the students. The freshers were invited to speak about their outfits and how they tied into the evening's glitzy retro theme. This fun, fashion-forward activity encouraged creativity and self-expression, helping everyone feel comfortable and enthusiastic about the night ahead. It also served as an excellent opportunity for students to get to know each other in a relaxed, light-hearted atmosphere. Following this, one of the second-year students treated the audience to an enchanting opera performance. The operatic performance, filled with grace and powerful emotion, captivated the attendees, offering a unique artistic touch to the evening's proceedings. It was a performance that stood out, demonstrating the diverse talents within the department. Once the opera performance concluded, the spotlight returned to the earlier activity, and the winner of the outfit challenge was announced to much applause. This added a competitive yet friendly spirit to the evening, with everyone cheering for their peers.

The next activity was an all-time favourite Dumb Charades. Both first- and second-year students and the faculty participated enthusiastically, showcasing their acting skills and guessing abilities in a game that entertained everyone. The laughter and friendly competition during the game helped further strengthen the bond between the students. To mark the official beginning of the new academic year, the Head of the Department (HOD) led a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony. This was a sweet and memorable gesture, signifying unity and a fresh start for the students, faculty, and department as a whole.

The night ended on a high note with a communal dinner where all students, faculty members, and attendees sat together, sharing a delicious meal. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to relax, chat, and deepen their connections in a more informal setting. Before wrapping up the event, everyone gathered for a group photo with the entire department near the board, which was designed in relevance to the theme of the event, capturing the memorable moments of the night. This marked the perfect end to a delightful evening, ensuring that the spirit of camaraderie and fun would carry forward into the academic year.

In summary, the "Glitzy Retro Soirée" was not just a fresher’s party but an experience that brought both freshers and second-year students closer as a department. The event was a fantastic way to start the academic year, helping everyone feel part of the Christ University family. It also allowed students to showcase their creativity and talents, build friendships, engage in fun activities and foster a sense of unity.
