A New Beginning For Batch of 2019 -2021

It has been rightly said that the best time for a new beginning is NOW! Today is the beginning of whatever anyone wants as he or she embraces new chances with hope and optimism. One should not be afraid of new beginnings, new people, new surroundings and new challenges. One must remember that every day is a new beginning, they must take a deep breath, smile and start again and experience the joy of a new beginning.

Welcoming a new batch of students is always a pleasure for any college and CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa is not an exception. The entire CHRIST fraternity warmly welcomed the Batch of 2019 -2021 MBA students on 15th June 2019 in the Management Block.

The solemn event began with an invocation song by Esther, Sneha, Shobith, Alvin, Harsha and Jessy. After the formal lighting of lamp, the Introductory Prayer was read out by Dr Fr Jossy George, Director & Dean, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa. It was followed by readings from holy scriptures. The Bhagwad Gita lines were read by Antara, Syed recited some quotes from The Quran and Sneha narrated some psalms from The Bible. Ramraj recited the words of Saint Chavara with utmost reverence. Intercessory Prayer was recited by Counsellor, Ms Arpita Ghosh and the Concluding Prayer was recited by Academic Coordinator, Fr Arun Anthony. Then Director & Dean, Dr Fr Jossy P George addressed the students. He welcomed them by asking everyone to applaud their selection.

Fr Jossy George has an invincible style of addressing the students through a presentation and his practical knowledge is shared through snippets and motivational slides. He told them categorically that if they have never failed then they have never tried anything in life. They have to do a lot more to be a little extraordinary and not fear failure. Fr Jossy shared a thought provoking video about people who made it big by sheer hard work and perseverance. He encouraged the students to learn as the teachers will offer a holistic approach to training them for a professional life.

Fr Jossy reiterated that placements are of paramount importance and their preparation in the college will make a perceptible difference at the time of selection. He briefed them about various certification courses, specialization events, mentoring system, remedial and bridge classes, CIP, soft skills training, student satisfaction surveys and strategic plans by teachers.

Fr Jossy told the students that they will become brand ambassadors once they leave the portals of the college. He motivated them to bridge the skill-gaps between perceived and realized by working hard to achieve their goals. He warned them that automation predictions are alarming and they have to be well equipped to face the change.

It was a proud moment for Director & Dean, CHRIST, Lavasa to share the remarkable progress of CHRIST in past 50 years. He mentioned that within a span of just ten years there has been progress from just one campus to seven campuses at present. The conscious choice of choosing the `Road Less Travelled’ was clearly reflected in a paradigm shift in imparted at CHRIST.

The orientation program was aptly explained by Dr Fr Arun Antony, Academic Coordinator, who spoke at length about the history of CIM, core values, mission and vision. Fr Arun also gave due emphasis to holistic education, intellectual competence, personal skills, interpersonal skills and societal skills.

Then Dr Binu P Paul, Head of Academics left no stone unturned when he gave detailed analysis of assessment rules, valuations and results along with hostel rules. He instructed them to show due respect to everyone including the house keeping staff. The new students ought to remember that academic integrity is important which will transform them into responsible individuals in due course of time. In his address Dr Binu spoke about the crucial zero week and how the students must be well versed with course plan. In order to get a glimpse of life at the campus a video was shown.

The faculty members cheered the new students and encouraged them to start afresh as it offers a great chance to rebuild their life the way they want. The students felt that they mustn't just dream but work hard to make their dreams come true. They were encouraged to be open to the magic and mystery that this new beginning brings. They felt motivated to start with a new pattern of thoughts, a new wave of emotions and above all a new belief system in themselves. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Professor Neena PC. The entire event was successfully coordinated by Dr Benny Godwin J.
