WORKSHOP ON DATA VISUALIZATION
The school of commerce, finance, and accountancy held a workshop on data visualization for BCom second-year students entitled "Data is the new look".
Visualizing data helps people see, interact with, and better understand data. Whatever the complexity, the right visualization can bring everyone together, regardless of their expertise. The ability to understand data better is beneficial to virtually every professional industry. A thorough understanding of data is necessary for every STEM field, as well as in fields such as government, finance, marketing, history, consumer goods, service industries, education, and sports. Despite our love for data visualization, there are practical, real-life applications that cannot be denied. As a result of its prevalence, visualization is also a very useful professional skill. Visually conveying your points is key, whether in a dashboard or slide deck. In recent years, citizen data scientists have become increasingly popular. Data-driven worlds require new skill sets. Professionals are increasingly relying on data to inform who, what, when, where, and how they make decisions. Modern professional worlds value those who can cross between creative storytelling and technical analysis: data visualization sits right in the middle of analysis and visual storytelling.
The importance of data analytics is discussed by Mr. Lalit both now and in the future. The speaker discussed marketing strategies such as targeted advertisements and graph types. Using examples, the class decided on a product helmet for the university to target and used the target advertisement strategy there. The purpose of this activity was to provide us with an insight into how marketing strategies work in the real world as well as how to think promptly and agilely. The discussion with Mr. Lalit was very fruitful and synergetic as the topic of discussion was relatable for the students.
During the presentation, Mr. Maninder Singh, Senior Unit Manager at Bajaj Finserv, Pune gave an overview of data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI. He presented an example of his daily work dashboard. By using analytics, he gave us an insight into his experience as an executive assistant for a CEO and how the corporate world works. He explained the work he does step by step to give us an idea about how visualization tools can be used for real-time data.
Aabhas Vii, Associate
Data Scientist at Elastic Run, Pune, was an alumnus of our college. In addition
to giving a demonstration of the TABLEAU software, Mr. Aabhas demonstrated the
steps involved in creating a dashboard based on a Kaggle dataset. Students were
using this software for the first time. After reaching a level where they could
independently create dashboards, they were extremely happy. Using Tableau
software, data can be arranged in an appealing and sensible way. Students were able
to create dashboards independently for various assignments and presentations
through this dashboard, which made organizing data very simple. Having been a
student at the Lavasa campus himself, he shared his own experiences, which made
the students comfortable while interacting with him. The workshop provided the
second-year BCom students an opportunity to work on new software along with a
fun interaction with an alumnus of the University.
Our college alumni Mr. Aabhas Vii, Associate Data Scientist at Elastic Run, Pune, was introduced to us. In addition to demonstrating the functionality of TABLEAU, Mr. Aabhas also walked us through the process of creating a dashboard using a dataset that he chose from Kaggle. The students were using this software for the first time. Once they reached a level where they could create dashboards independently, they were delighted. With Tableau software, you can organize data in a very sensible and attractive manner. Students were able to independently create these dashboards for various presentations and assignments using this dashboard. Having been a student here at Lavasa, he shared his own experience as an alumnus.
