WORLD CANCER DAY
Cancer is a disease that affects millions
of people around the world, regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic status.
Unfortunately, not all individuals have access to the necessary resources and
support to receive proper care and treatment. This is why World Cancer Day is
so important, as it serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the
disease and to advocate for more equitable access to care. World Cancer Day is
an international day marked on 4 February to raise cancer awareness and
encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. This year's theme marks the
second year of the campaign “close the care gap”, which is about understanding
the inequities in cancer care and taking action to make the necessary progress
in addressing them.
It is not just the physical suffering that
cancer brings but also the emotional and financial toll it can take on
individuals and their families. With proper screening and early detection, many
types of cancer can be treated effectively. However, many people in low- and
middle-income countries need access to early detection and quality treatment
services. The “close the care gap” campaign is trying to address this. On World
Cancer Day, CCHS, in collaboration with CSA, worked towards creating awareness
for cancer. Students put up stalls for food and donations. Food stalls included
healthier options of sandwiches, sprouts, bhel and a mojito for the beverage. A
donation stall was also put up where the students spoke about the cause.
Faculty members made some donations. The donations were to be given to CSA for
health drives conducted by them.
On 4th February, Saturday, a parade was
held to create awareness for World Cancer Day. The director, Fr Jossy, was
present to flag off the event. The students walked from MBA Block to the
Central Bock. Posters were held, and slogans were recited. The parade went
through the hotel Celebration and the marketplace and ended at the Central
Block. Each participating member wore a purple ribbon to represent World Cancer
Day, which was distributed to all faculty members. The parade was
also an effective way to raise awareness, as it brought attention to the issue
and brought the community together in support of a common cause.
Raising awareness is just the first step. We need to continue advocating for change and addressing the inequalities in cancer care. This can be done through increased investment in research and development, better access to care, and more support for individuals and families affected by the disease.
In conclusion, World Cancer Day is a time to reflect on our progress in the fight against cancer and recommit to making a difference. Let us raise awareness, advocate for change, and work towards a world where everyone has access to the care and support they need to live their best lives.
