Innovate to Elevate: Building an Entrepreneurial Mindset
The School of Business and Management (BBA), CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organised an awareness session titled “Innovate to Elevate: Building an Entrepreneurial Mindset” on 29 November 2025 at the Auditorium, Management Block. This initiative forms an important part of the department’s ongoing efforts to inculcate a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among BBA students. As part of the strategic academic vision, the department aims to nurture creative thinking from the very first year of the BBA programme so that students can begin incubating their ideas early and refine and execute those ideas as they progress into their second and third years.
The session was conducted for more than 150 first-year BBA students and was coordinated by Dr. Purnendu Bikash Acharjee. The invited speaker for the event was Prof. (Dr.) Amit Seth, an eminent academician known for his expertise in innovation-driven entrepreneurship. His session focused on building the foundational mindset required for young learners to develop as creators, problem-solvers, and future business leaders.
Dr. Amit Seth began the session by discussing the essence of innovation and entrepreneurship in today’s rapidly changing business world. He emphasised that innovation is not restricted to large-scale inventions but can also be incorporated into small, everyday products by applying creativity, observation, and technology. The speaker highlighted the role of design thinking as a structured yet flexible approach for identifying user needs, redefining challenges, and arriving at original and practical solutions. He explained each component of design thinking—empathising, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing—and encouraged students to use this framework whenever they encounter a problem or seek to develop a new idea.
To strengthen students’ understanding, Dr. Seth provided a hands-on thought exercise. He challenged the participants to think about how technology could be incorporated innovatively into a simple laptop bag. This real-world scenario encouraged students to shift from passive listening to active ideation. At the end of the session, each first-year class section was instructed to conceptualise technological enhancements for a laptop bag that could transform it into a more functional and marketable product. Selected representatives from each section presented their innovative concepts on stage.
The ideas presented by the students displayed creativity, practicality, and a genuine attempt to apply technology meaningfully. The evaluation was carried out by Dr. Biplab Roy and Dr. Shakeeb Mir, who appreciated the enthusiasm and potential demonstrated by the first-year students. They concluded that while all the ideas were promising, each concept could be further strengthened through refinement, additional features, and deeper research.
Overall, the session successfully met its objectives by motivating students to think innovatively, apply design-thinking principles, and participate in idea generation from the early stages of their academic journey. This event aligns with the School of Business and Management’s broader commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial ecosystem within the BBA programme and preparing students to contribute meaningfully to future incubation and innovation initiatives.
