The Soul of the Constitution of India- A Session on the Importance of the Preamble
The School of Business & Management (BBA) at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organised an insightful awareness session on Indian Constitution Day titled “The Soul of the Constitution of India: A Session on the Importance of the Preamble” on 26th November 2025. Conducted from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Auditorium in the Management Block, the event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of constitutional values, strengthen their sense of civic responsibility, and highlight the ethical and democratic principles embedded within the Indian Constitution.
The session was facilitated by Prof. Mobin Jacob, Assistant Professor from the School of Law, whose expertise provided students with an enriching perspective on constitutional interpretation and democratic governance. He began by explaining the significance of celebrating Constitution Day, emphasizing the importance of remembering the adoption of the Constitution on 26 November 1949 and the enduring spirit of democracy it represents.
A key highlight of the event was its focus on creating awareness among students about the values associated with the Constitution, especially those articulated in the Preamble. Prof. Jacob delved into the philosophical foundations of Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, explaining how these principles shape the functioning of the nation and the responsibilities of every citizen. Each value was discussed in detail, encouraging students to reflect on how these ideals influence contemporary society and their role as future leaders. The speaker also took the students through the history behind the framing of the Constitution, elaborating on the contributions of the Constituent Assembly and visionaries like Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. He traced the evolution of the Preamble, highlighting the debates, aspirations, and collective effort involved in its drafting. By connecting historical insights with modern-day relevance, the session strengthened students’ appreciation for the Constitution as a living document.
To foster a sense of personal connection and responsibility towards the nation, Prof. Jacob invited all attendees to stand and recite the Preamble together. This symbolic gesture transformed the session into a moment of collective commitment, reinforcing the Preamble as not merely a constitutional introduction but a pledge to uphold democratic values in everyday life.
Towards the end of the session, the gathering concluded with the National Anthem, reflecting respect and gratitude toward the nation’s founders and their vision for a just and progressive India. The atmosphere was filled with unity and patriotic reflection. Overall, the session successfully fulfilled its objective of promoting constitutional awareness, instilling democratic values, and helping students connect deeply with the principles that guide India’s governance structure. By focusing on the importance of the Preamble and the values it upholds, the event contributed meaningfully to nurturing informed, responsible, and value-driven citizens among the BBA student community.
