Linkedin Essentials: Alumni Perspectives on Professional Networking
The School of Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized an online Alumni interaction session titled “LinkedIn Essentials: Alumni Perspectives on Professional Networking” on 15th November 2025. This session was conducted as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen placement training initiatives and enhance students’ career readiness through meaningful Alumni engagement. The event featured two distinguished Alumni speakers: Ms. Sakshi Modi, Developer at Morgan Stanley, and Ms. Gaurika C, currently pursuing higher studies at the University of Hamburg. The session witnessed active participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The primary objective of the session was to support students in understanding the importance of professional networking as a crucial component of placement training and career development. The Alumni speakers shared valuable insights from their professional and academic journeys, offering students a realistic perspective on transitioning from university life to corporate and research-oriented environments. They highlighted that this transition requires continuous skill development, adaptability, and a strong professional mindset, all of which are essential elements of effective placement training.
A major focus of the session was placed on building a strong LinkedIn presence, which was emphasized as a key tool in modern placement training strategies. The Alumni provided detailed guidance on creating impactful LinkedIn profiles, including optimizing headlines, writing effective summaries, highlighting technical and soft skills, and showcasing internships, projects, certifications, and achievements. They also explained how consistency between a resume and a LinkedIn profile can significantly improve visibility to recruiters and academic institutions.
The role of Alumni networking in enhancing placement opportunities was discussed extensively. The speakers encouraged students to connect with peers, seniors, Alumni, industry professionals, and recruiters to build a strong professional network. They emphasized that meaningful Alumni connections can lead to mentorship, internships, referrals, collaborative projects, and exposure to global career opportunities.
In addition, the session included important discussions on resume building as part of placement training. The Alumni shared practical tips on structuring resumes, using measurable achievements, tailoring resumes for specific job roles or higher education applications, and aligning resumes with current industry expectations. Students were motivated to actively participate in internships, industry events, technical workshops, and skill-development programs to strengthen their placement profiles.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students raised queries related to placement preparation, career planning, skill enhancement, job searching techniques, and higher education abroad. The Alumni addressed these questions with clarity and encouragement, offering guidance rooted in real-world experiences.
This Alumni interaction session served as a highly effective placement training initiative. It provided students with valuable exposure to industry and academic expectations beyond the classroom. The insights and guidance shared by the Alumni have significantly contributed to strengthening students’ professional awareness, confidence, and preparedness for future placement opportunities.
