Leadership Skill Development for UG 1st Year
As part of the placement training programme, four sessions on leadership skills were conducted by the School of Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, from 25th November 2025 to 29th November 2025. The sessions were facilitated by different faculty members.
Session 1 – Prof. Sharad Gupta, Assistant Professor, School of Management (BBA), Christ University Lavasa:
Prof. Sharad Gupta inaugurated the training series with an insightful and reflective session focusing on attitude, self-awareness, and personal grounding. Drawing meaningful references from the Ramayana, he illustrated how timeless ancient wisdom continues to hold relevance in shaping modern professional behaviour and ethical leadership. The session encouraged students to look beyond academic degrees and external achievements by engaging with introspective questions such as, “Who am I beyond my degree?”, “What energises or drains me?”, “What are my strengths?”, and “What do I consciously or unconsciously avoid?”. These reflections helped students better understand their personal values, motivations, and behavioural tendencies. The session also included dynamic group activities where leadership roles were deliberately rotated, allowing students to experience adaptability, responsibility, and teamwork from different perspectives. Through these activities, Prof. Gupta strongly emphasised that attitude is the foundation of effective leadership, shaping resilience, emotional intelligence, collaboration, and a growth-oriented mindset necessary for long-term personal and professional success.
Session 2 – Dr. Anil Reynold Desouza, Assistant Professor (MBA), Christ University Lavasa:
Dr. Anil Reynold Desouza conducted a highly engaging and interactive session aimed at broadening students’ understanding of professional identity and interpersonal perception. Using the Johari Window framework, he explained how awareness of one’s strengths, blind spots, hidden traits, and unknown potential plays a crucial role in leadership development. A particularly engaging segment involved a creative group activity in which students were challenged to market harmful or controversial products in a positive light. This exercise enhanced persuasive communication skills, teamwork, creativity, and ethical reasoning while encouraging students to think critically under constraints. The session successfully blended theoretical concepts with experiential learning, reinforcing the importance of self-awareness, open feedback, and the confidence to step outside one’s comfort zone in professional environments.
Session 3 – Dr. Jibrael Jos, Associate Dean, Christ University Lavasa:
Dr. Jibrael Jos delivered a powerful and inspiring session centred on leadership behaviour and the qualities of an effective team player. Through a simple yet impactful activity—asking students to identify individuals who inspire them and explain why—participants reflected on how personal values, role models, and life experiences shape leadership styles. Dr. Jos highlighted the importance of vision, curiosity, and continuous learning, concluding with Steve Jobs’ iconic quote, “Stay hungry, stay foolish.” His address motivated students to cultivate internal drive, take ownership of their growth, and adopt an innovative mindset. The session reinforced that leadership begins with inspiration, passion, and a lifelong commitment to learning.
Session 4 – Dr. Parameshwaran S., Associate Dean, Christ University Lavasa:
Dr. Parameshwaran’s session focused on self-control, patience, emotional regulation, and conflict management—essential skills for both professional and personal success. Through engaging storytelling and real-life experiences, he demonstrated how calmness and composure enable leaders to handle challenging situations with clarity, empathy, and dignity. A thought-provoking video further highlighted themes of unity, perspective-taking, and empathy. His warm, humorous, and interactive teaching style kept students actively engaged while delivering profound lessons. Participants gained valuable insights into the importance of emotional balance, understanding diverse viewpoints, and managing conflicts effectively to become compassionate and responsible leaders.
