Ignite ’26: Induction and Orientation Development Programme

The Department of Commerce organized Ignite ’26, a seven-day Induction and Orientation Development Programme (IODP), from 11 August to 18 August 2026, to facilitate the smooth transition of newly admitted students into the university environment. The programme was designed to address the academic, administrative and personal challenges faced by students entering higher education from diverse educational backgrounds. It was aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The programme commenced with an inaugural session, “IGNITE ’26,” followed by interactive activities such as “Fresh Faces, Fun Spaces: Breaking the Ice.” These sessions enabled students to interact with their peers and begin their university journey in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Students were also addressed by the Academic Coordinator, Fr. Justin, and introduced to essential college resources, including library facilities, IT services and the official college email system. The induction programme further familiarised students with the Department of Commerce, its faculty members, academic guidelines, curriculum structure and opportunities
for holistic development. Sessions on the Department’s USPs, Christite Journey, events and opportunities encouraged students to actively participate in academic and co-curricular activities throughout their university life. A major component of Ignite ’26 was the Bridge Course, conducted over several days. The course aimed to strengthen students’ foundational knowledge and reduce the academic gap among learners from different educational streams. This intervention was particularly beneficial for students without a commerce background, enabling them to gain confidence and prepare for the demands of higher education. The programme also emphasised the importance of mental and emotional well-being through a session on Holistic Well-being and Guided Meditation. Discussions such as “Overcoming Challenges in Lavasa” and “Taboo Talks” created opportunities for students to openly discuss adjustment challenges and concerns. These initiatives reflected the department’s commitment to promoting a supportive and healthy learning environment. Students were introduced to important institutional policies through sessions on departmental support systems, email etiquette, examination conduct and university guidelines. They also
received information about various campus facilities and support centres, including CPCG, CCHS, Physical Education, NCC/OIA, SWO, CDL/Infotech, CAPS/CCE, the Centre for Social Action, Residence Life and the Student Council. These sessions helped students understand the wide range of academic, personal and professional support available to them. The programme also included interactions with distinguished speakers, Mr. Nitin Bhide, CTO, Siemens, and Mr. Adik Todkar, Senior Assistant Manager, NISM, who shared professional insights and encouraged students to connect their academic learning with future career aspirations. The concluding sessions focused on reflection, resolution and academic progression, encouraging students to develop a sense of responsibility towards their personal and professional growth. Overall, Ignite ’26 successfully provided students with academic preparedness, institutional awareness, well-being support and career orientation. By creating a strong foundation for responsible and confident participation in university life, the programme contributed meaningfully to the holistic development and long-term success of the incoming commerce students.
