DEPARTMENT OF DATA SCIENCE : OUTBOUND TRAINING
Day 1: Time: 5 AM to 10 PM
The preparation for the OBT was done by Mr.Avichal who posted the details of the same on the whatsapp group on the previous day regarding the departure from Lavasa, and details regarding the timings and the time of arrival. The journey began from the campus at 5:00 AM, and everybody boarded the bus on the way. The rest of the participants joined on the way from Pirangut. The bus stopped at a restaurant around 8:30 AM for breakfast and resumed our travel around 10 AM. To bring in interaction Dr.Jibrael Jos and Ms.Nishitha conducted activities, out of which the first activity was to switch seats and sit with somebody different from originally who they were sitting with when boarded the bus. Additionally, each participant received a chit with two names where we had to support one person and build a good friendship with the other for 24hrs, which was to be kept as a secret. These activities helped everybody enjoy the day and have good conversations with each other, fostering team building and developing good relationships within the department. We arrived at the resort around 11:30 AM and checked into our respective rooms with our roommates, later everybody changed and jumped into the pool with the swim wear marking the beginning of fun and a friendly environment. The activities conducted facilitated team building, bonding and also created a lively atmosphere. The afternoon session, particularly focused on Empowerment in Teaching-Learning process through discussions of various Learner-Centered approaches, was effective in initiating discussions around different practices adopted by different teachers. The teachers were divided into three groups; Dr Tiny S Palathara, Dr Asif Tariq, and Prof Alwin Joseph demonstrated three different ways of pedagogy - reading and brainstorming, presentation and discussions, and activity based learning respectively. Others played the role of students, where they were involved in the process through questions and participation in the activities conducted. Various styles of teaching were very effectively demonstrated to all the participants, following a discussion on how these can be effectively implemented in sessions taken by other teachers. The second session followed very similar activities, where Dr Libin Chacko Samuel, Dr Lian Jacob, and Dr Ramesh Kumar led the same three groups through problem solving, involved learning, and video presentation methods. Dr Jibrael Jos moderated the discussions on the good practices the teachers exhibited, and concluded the session by facilitating a small group activity involving both teachers and learners of the activity to note most important outcomes. The final formal session of the day was crafted by Dr Arokia Paul Rajan, very specifically focusing on the Learner-Centred Approach and the good practices for adoption of LCA in classrooms. Dr Paul shared personal experiences and reflections, particularly about improving the quality of students through continuous monitoring of their progress and through feedback mechanisms. The session also shed light on fundamental educational principles such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, levels of thinking, Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, Gardner’s Multiple Theory of intelligence, the five gogys in Education - Pedagogy, Andragogy, Heutagogy, Peeragogy, and Cybergogy. The discussion-based session went on with emphasis on teaching practices, comparison of traditional practices and the expectations of 21st century skills, and by providing a platform for other teachers to share the practices to others. The efforts of all attendees in developing systems and practices for effective student quality improvement was very evident during the sessions.
OBT Session – Day 1 (5:00 PM to 10:30 PM)
Our Outbound Training (OBT) on Day 1 from 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM was filled with engaging adventures, relaxation, and team bonding activities.
The session began at 5:00 PM with a visit to the stunning Diveagarh Beach, where faculty members enjoyed a variety of water adventure rides. The enthusiasm and participation were remarkable, as almost all faculty members indulged in water sports, showcasing their adventurous spirit and camaraderie.
After the exhilarating experience at the beach, we returned to the resort at 7:00 PM and spent time at the pool until 7:30 PM. The refreshing dip in the pool helped everyone relax after the exciting water activities.
Following this, there was a self-time period until 8:00 PM, allowing participants to unwind and freshen up before dinner. Dinner was served from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, where everyone enjoyed delicious meals while engaging in lively conversations.
The evening concluded with a delightful session of games and fun activities hosted by Vijaylakshmi Ma'am and Anita Ma'am. The engaging activities and interactive games added cheer and energy to the group, fostering stronger bonds among the faculty members. The activity session concluded successfully at 10:30 PM, wrapping up a joyful and memorable day.
Overall, Day 1 was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and social engagement, setting the tone for the upcoming OBT sessions.
Day 2 (6.30 AM to 02:30 PM)

The second day of the outbound training began on a serene and reflective note, allowing participants to engage in personal time during the early morning hours. Some opted for a peaceful walk along the beach, while others enjoyed a refreshing swim in the pool. This was followed by breakfast, setting a positive tone for the day.
Session on Intention and Personal Goals
Post breakfast, a session on "Intention and Personal Goals" was conducted by Dr. Jibrael Jos. The session began with a short prayer, guiding participants into a thoughtful and meaningful engagement, followed by a soulful prayer song. Participants had been assigned a focus area the previous day and were encouraged to reflect upon it.During the session, Dr. Jibrael Jos assigned a task wherein each participant was required to compose a one-page write-up on their designated focus area. This write-up could encompass their perspectives on the focus area, its significance, and any recommendations related to it. Additionally, faculty members were given an optional task to write about a course of their choice, detailing their teaching methodologies, challenges encountered, and possible solutions for overcoming these challenges. The faculty members participated enthusiastically, with many showcasing their creative and artistic abilities.
As participants reflected on these topics, Dr. Jibrael Jos also shared profound thoughts on life, through a role-play activity titled Finding Purpose, featuring Prof. Naived, Prof. Milan, and Prof. Margaret. Each one of them gave their response drawing inspiration from influential figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Thoreau, Einstein, Steve Jobs, Rumi and Laozi to name a few. Following this, he opened the question to all the faculties to express their views on what life means to them. The responses varied, with participants describing life as a blessing, a journey of passion, an array of opportunities, among other perspectives. This exercise encouraged deep thinking and meaningful discussions.
Session on AQAR and Strategic Action Plan (SAP)
After a short break, the second session began with Prof. Naived discussing the recent AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) data submission. He highlighted the key factors that strengthened the department’s performance and pointed out areas needing further enhancement.
Dr. Lija Jacob then addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in bridging the identified gaps in data and documentation. She explained the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) in detail and provided clear steps on how it could help improve the institution. To facilitate the implementation of the SAP, Dr. Lija Jacob appointed in-charges for each of the four SAP criteria and formed dedicated teams. She provided clear guidance on their roles and expectations. The teams then participated in interactive discussions and brainstorming sessions, where they shared ideas, identified key challenges, and proposed solutions to enhance their respective SAP domains. This collaborative effort allowed participants to gain an understanding of their responsibilities and encouraged them to work towards improvements.
The day's sessions were insightful and interactive, helping participants to think, work together, and develop ideas for progress.
