International Conference on Role of Language, Literature, and Culture in the Contemporary World


On the 27th of January, 2025, the students of the Department of Languages, CHRIST University Pune Lavasa, participated in the international conference on "The Role of Language, Literature, and Culture in the Contemporary World," hosted by Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce, Pune. This event served as an excellent opportunity for students and faculty members to engage with a global network of scholars, researchers, and practitioners. The conference was coordinated by Dr. Rimi Nandy and Mr. John Steward Raj of the Department of Languages, ensuring seamless participation and engagement for the attendees. The primary objectives of attending this conference were to gain insights into contemporary research in the fields of language, literature, and culture, network with academics and scholars from diverse backgrounds, enhance students’ exposure to interdisciplinary approaches in humanities research, and present and discuss research papers contributed by faculty and students.

The international conference featured keynote addresses and paper presentations covering various aspects of language, literature, and culture. The event was attended by eminent scholars, including Dr. Christina Rath, Dr. Ami Upadhyay, Dr. Pramod K Nayar, Prof. Catherine Sweeting, and Mrs. Yoko Deshmukh. Their discussions revolved around significant topics such as translation, vulnerability, sustainability, linguistics, and language. The conference aimed to explore the evolving role of language, literature, and culture in contemporary society by bringing together scholars, educators, students, writers, and practitioners to engage in critical dialogue and examine how these elements contribute to or challenge current societal trends.

The paper presentation sessions provided students with exposure to current research trends. Presentation topics included popular culture and music, Indian Knowledge Systems, Indian Literature, Children’s Literature, linguistics, language in the digital age, and the association of the digital with the human. This diverse range of discussions allowed students to expand their understanding of how language and literature interact with digital technology, cultural narratives, and emerging societal challenges. The conference provided a platform for both students and faculty members to engage in critical discussions with experts in the field. This interactive environment encouraged intellectual exchanges, where attendees could pose critical questions, receive expert insights, and refine their perspectives on various research areas. Faculty members from CHRIST University Pune Lavasa also had the opportunity to establish meaningful academic connections with researchers, potentially leading to future collaborations and knowledge exchange.

The conference highlighted the importance of integrating linguistic, literary, and cultural studies with digital tools and social sciences. The role of artificial intelligence in language processing and storytelling emerged as a significant area of interest. Several discussions revolved around the challenges of preserving indigenous languages and traditions in a rapidly globalizing world. Faculty and students also established connections with researchers for potential future collaborations. Fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations with scholars from other institutions will further enhance academic growth and research opportunities. The department trip to the conference on "The Role of Language, Literature, and Culture in the Contemporary World" was a significant step toward academic excellence and scholarly enrichment.
