Workshop on Revolutionizing Big Data Analytics with Apache Spark

The Department of Commerce at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus – 'The Hub of Analytics' successfully conducted a workshop titled "Revolutionizing Big Data Analytics with Apache Spark" on 6th February 2025 at 11:30 AM in Room No. 2226, Management Block. The session was led by Anubin Binoy, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), and was attended by students, faculty members, and professionals keen on exploring advancements in big data analytics.

The workshop provided participants with an in-depth understanding of Apache Spark, one of the most powerful tools for big data processing and analytics. Apache Spark’s ability to handle large-scale data efficiently has made it a crucial technology in today’s data-driven world. The session covered essential aspects such as Spark’s architecture, Resilient Distributed Datasets (RDDs), Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, and its applications in machine learning using Spark MLlib. Attendees gained practical insights into how Spark can be used for real-time data processing and large-scale analytics workflows.

Under the umbrella of the School of Commerce, Finance & Accountancy, the event reinforced the university’s reputation as a Hub of Analytics, with a strong emphasis on equipping students with cutting-edge technological knowledge. Anubin Binoy, with her extensive experience in data science, cloud computing, and big data frameworks, guided the participants through real-world applications of Apache Spark. She demonstrated how organizations utilize distributed computing and parallel processing to analyze vast amounts of data efficiently. Her engaging approach helped attendees grasp the importance of Spark in modern analytics, making the session highly interactive and insightful.
