Report on the Data Science Production of The Little Prince
The Department of Data Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, in collaboration with the Data Science Association (DSA), recently staged a unique adaptation of The Little Prince. This production aimed to bridge the worlds of literature, storytelling, and data-driven insights, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
The event was inaugurated by our esteemed Dean and Director, Dr. Jibrael Jose, who introduced the play, emphasizing its deeper philosophical themes. He encouraged the audience to engage with the story beyond its surface, urging them to reflect on the lessons embedded within.
An Innovative Interpretation
This adaptation took a creative turn by featuring four different actors portraying the role of the Little Prince, symbolizing his presence at different stages of the narrative. The signature clown hats worn by each Little Prince made it easy for the audience to recognize them.
The talented cast included Ashish, Himali, Laxika, Mohammed, Saptaswa, and Shanya, who brought the characters to life with expressive performances. The script was co-written by Laxika and Dr. Jibrael Jose, ensuring that the adaptation stayed true to the essence of The Little Prince while introducing unique storytelling elements.
A powerful monologue was delivered by Laxika, captivating the audience and reinforcing the play’s philosophical undertones. Additionally, a special recitation by Dr. Jose further deepened the emotional impact of the performance. The musical aspect of the play was equally enchanting, with Arghya and Shubhalaxmi composing and performing heartfelt songs that captured the essence of the relationship between the Little Prince and the Rose.
Audience Engagement & Participation
The production was performed in three shows at Venue 1128, Central Block, with varying audience sizes:
● Show 1: 20 attendees
● Show 2: 20 attendees
● Show 3: A larger crowd of 70 students
Each performance left a lasting impression on the attendees, sparking meaningful discussions about the philosophical depth of the story and its relevance in today’s world.
A Production Beyond Theater
This Data Science Production was more than just a theatrical event—it was an exploration of curiosity, wisdom, and self-discovery. The seamless integration of storytelling, performance, and data-driven insights created a deeply engaging experience for both the participants and the audience.
The overwhelming positive feedback from the audience and faculty members has set a strong precedent for future Data Science Productions, encouraging further innovation in blending analytics, literature, and performing arts.
This production was a testament to the creativity, passion, and vision of the Department of Data Science and the Data Science Association, marking a significant milestone in the intersection of data science and theatrical storytelling.
