Orientation Program For Law Students
An orientation program began in the Auditorium, Central Block, Lavasa for new students of Law on 29th July 2019. The week long program will be conducted from 29th July 2019 to 3rd August 2019 by a panel of experts. Director & Dean Fr Jossy George was also present on the occasion. Fr Jossy encouraged them to make the most of the orientation program and think of ways and means to look forward with optimism as they move forward.
It was a pleasure to welcome Adv Chanchal Choudhary whose qualifications range from doing B Com, CQE, PGHRM, MBA, LLM to being a PhD scholar (Law). His vast experience includes two decades of corporate practice holding senior most positions in managing entire gamut of back end support functions which includes Finance & Accounts, Direct & Indirect Taxation, HR & Admin, Training, Purchase, Stores, QMS etc.
He appears in Bombay High Court regularly and other High Courts and Supreme Court occasionally on the complex legal issues covering wide range of legal issues not limited to Civil Laws, Criminal Laws, Constitutional Laws, Personal Laws etc.
He was accompanied by Adv Rekha Choudhary who has done B Com. She is a gold medalist in LLM and is a PhD (Law) scholar. She has been practicing in Bombay High Court and its subordinates Courts since 1999. She successfully formed a partnership firm in 2015, named M/s Xpress Legal and her principal responsibility is to manage the non-litigations division of the firm which includes search and legal title report of the properties to be mortgaged to the Banks and Financial Institutions. She and her husband have employed a young team of advocates mostly women to carry out search and title investigation for their premium Banking and NBFCs clients.
The orientation program will give information about how to study law and nature of law along with an introduction to legal profession and history of legal education in India. A session will also be conducted on the role of lawyers in the society and the law students will come to know about professional ethics and advocacy.
A lot of emphasis will also be given to basics of legal writing / legal research and critical thinking. Legal maxims / research ethics will also be discussed. A separate session will focus on understanding statutory enactments and there will be an exercise on perceptions. One of the sessions will be about understanding a comprehensive passage with specific reference to efficient reading. The students will be briefed about SCC and Manupatra online demonstration.
Academic Coordinator, Fr Arun will also address the students during the course of the orientation program. The entire program will prepare them for the classes which will commence from next week.
