OST Presentation Competition

Selected first year students of MBA at CHRIST, Lavasa participated in OST (Organizational Structure Training) Presentation Competition that was held on 11th July 2019 in the Conference Hall, Management Block.

The first year students are slowly and gradually getting into the mode of serious studies and beginning to understand some concepts like OST and in no time they will be introduced to SIP (Summer Internship Program) and CIP (Corporate Immersion Program). The students are keen to know more and are enthusiastic enough to ask pertinent questions pertaining to their lessons.

Once a student gets admission for MBA at CU he/she is expected to become acquainted with the functioning of a manufacturing company before commencement of the course. Ideally a student identifies a company of his/her choice and gets practical training for nearly a month.

During this period, he becomes acquainted with corporate culture of the company. Then the student prepares a report about the company under the guidance of one of the professors at college who acts as his mentor. The comprehensive report focuses on major activities of the company, it’s organizational structure, products, sales, strategies etc. Once a student formally joins the college a presentation is made for his/her respective mentor based on the experience. Then each mentor selects the best mentee for the final competition.

Among the nominated mentees Sumanth Pulagante had a great learning experience at Capricorn Food Products Capricorn Food products India ltd. Since he is from an engineering background so it was interesting to understand the nuances of this food manufacturing industry. He was not familiar with HR policies and nitty gritty details of a business firm. He learnt about the strategies used for procurement of raw material and how they are incorporated by the management in the system. Sumanth also learnt a lot about supply chain management.

Jeremiah Jerome worked for AAVIN as part of Organization Structure Training. He was impressed by the use of strategies to understand business operations in an organization. It was enlightening to know the ways and means incorporated by an organization to achieve the targets. The framework of a financial structure in an organization was brought to his knowledge. The information on products, SWOT analysis was also quite useful.
Madhan Sailesh M undertook OST at KM Knitwear Pvt. Ltd. The entire training process offered a plethora of information and he is positive that it will help him to understand the functioning process of an industry as a professional. He feels that such pre-preparedness will help him to understand the concepts theoretically in the class and later it will benefit him professionally. Madhan is of the opinion that OST has proved extremely beneficial.

Treesa M Thomas went to Paragon Paragon Ltd and understood the way each department functions. She was highly impressed by the work culture in the industry and the practical hands on training was a great learning experience. She is grateful to the college for giving her the opportunity to get practical information before understanding the core concepts in the class.

Piradheep R worked at Network Clothing Co Pvt Ltd and it was an enriching experience. He got an insight into the functioning of an organization and noticed that each and every employee’s contribution to the company is of paramount importance.

Jibin Verghese’s experience at KITEX was an ideal experience. It is a textile industry in South India which also deals with bags. He learnt about the managerial tactics when he observed the employees from close quarters. His interaction with the team of dedicated employees taught him about time management as he worked in close coordination with them.

Rhea Joseph had an incredible experience at POSCO-India Pune Processing Centre. It is a steel processing center. She was highly impressed by the performance of the people who worked relentlessly and did not succumb to pressure. They managed to strike a balance between personal and professional life. Rhea learnt that maintaining discipline is an integral part of work culture. It reflects the work ethics being followed by an organization when they work in tandem with each other.

The OST presentation proved that the students were able to understand the concept in totality. The audience appreciated the efforts of the participants and were able to recall their own experience. The first prize went to Rhea Joseph and Sumanth Pulagante stood second.
