Director & Dean, Dr. Fr Jossy George Joins A Panel Discussion On Accreditation


CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa was selected as the Best Upcoming University in Maharashtra 2019 by Centre for Education Growth and Research (CEGR) Jury Committee on 23rd August 2019 during their 5th Higher Education Summit at Hyatt, Pune. 
Fr Jossy thanked CEGR Jury Committee upon receiving the award. He took part in a panel discussion on accreditation along with distinguished speakers such as Prof. Anil D. Sahsrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, Chairman, National Board of Accreditation, Prof. A. P. Mittal, President, CEGR and Member Secretary, AICTE, Prof. Rajive Kumar, Adviser (Policy and Academic), AICTE, Dr. Ramesh Unnikrishan, Director, AICTE, Dr. C. S. Verma, Regional Officer, AICTE, Prof. Prabhat Ranjan, Vice-Chancellor, D. Y. Patil International University, Prof. E. B. Khedkar, Vice-Chancellor, Ajeenkya D. Y. Patil International University, Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Chairman, Lexicon Group of Institutions, Dr. Sanjay B. Chordiya, Chairman, Suryadatta Group of Institutes, Mr. Sanjiv Goswami, Managing Director, Springer Nature and Dr. Sandeep Pachpande, Chairman, ASM Group of Institutions. 


Fr Jossy mentioned that preparation for accreditation ought to be done well in advance by any college. He said that as per statistics available on Google there are 909 central / state or private universities in India and around 106 autonomous colleges in India. A couple of months back UGC announced that there are more than 15,000 colleges and the same number of universities in India. The list clearly indicates the number of students passing out of college per year. 
He rightly articulated that despite the fact students are well versed with curriculum and being academically qualified one can notice a gap between being qualified and skilled. Fr Jossy suggested that the teachers also ought to be updated to guide the students better. He agreed with Chairman, AICTE, who rightly said that faculty members need an internship in order to be at pace with the latest information.
Director & Dean, Fr Jossy said that regarding accreditation or quality quantity measurement few practical guidelines need to be followed. He suggested that there should be a common platform on the web for all universities to upload details of accreditation which can be selected for verification purpose by the audit team. He also recommended that information pertaining to academics, events, etc. must be uploaded on the website pronto. The panel discussion was quite informative and many points were discussed amongst all the distinguished speakers.
