World Tourism Day
As part of an initiative by CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus to raise awareness among the students regarding days of national and international significance, a lecture regarding the importance of World Tourism Day was held on the auspicious day itself—27th September—at 4:30 PM and ran for half an hour. The host for the event was Mr Aaron George.
The guest speaker for the event was Dr Manjula Chaudhary, the Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor at the Department of Tourism and Management at Kurukshetra University. The event was conducted online through the Zoom platform with students and faculty from all of the Lavasa campus’s departments in attendance. As the students gathered were from multiple disciplines, Dr Manjula tailored her speech to address the multidisciplinary nature of tourism. The esteemed speaker referred to the role of the internet and websites in the industry as well as how statistics and commerce influence the field.
Dr Manjula also touched upon how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the tourism industry, once again highlighting how helpful the internet has been in allowing the industry to continue operating in an environment where travel is discouraged. Dr Manjula went on to address the significance of World Tourism Day itself and how it has been designated an important date by the UNWTO and reiterated the importance of the tourism industry in today’s world.
The lecture lasted for approximately 30 minutes at the end of which, the floor was opened for questions from the students.
