Webinar on “Hybrid Working Model in the Post-Covid World”

The webinar on Hybrid Working Model in the Post-Covid World” was organised by the School of Business and Management (BBA) CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus on 8th October 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

The guest speaker, Mr Sabyasachi Dutta, Country General Manager (India) and Board Member at Crown Agents Insp Pvt Ltd presented his views on working models post-Covid.

Every country had lockdown and people had to remain in their own residential places and had to manage everything on their own. Everything changed suddenly because of the COVID pandemic. Now office going people got accustomed to the new normal and resumed working from home as working places had been shut due to lockdown across the world. Employees could work from places like home, company’s office, co-working spaces, coffee shops, libraries, etc.

The speaker informed that it has been observed by the WFH environment does not affect productivity much despite the increased workload and stress on the employees, WFH made it more difficult to balance office and household chores. WFH even pulled back some people’s careers, employees felt alone, as they couldn’t work with their colleagues there was some sort of dissatisfaction. Employees didn’t appreciate this style much, as many times family life got disturbed because of the 24X7 WFH availability concept.

WFH doesn’t suit every industry especially sectors like professional and business activities, manufacturing, health services, constructions, wholesale and retail stores, transportation, etc.

Speaker had mentioned the term “Phygital” as the concept of using technology to bridge the digital world with the physical one with the purpose of providing a unique interactive experience. Speaker quoted, many examples such as D Mart Ready, where we can order groceries online and go and pick up the package from the store; Google’s first-ever physical retail store in New York, customers could browse and buy products or can shop from online store googlestore.com and pick up their orders from the store. In the education sector, everything had been happening online including assignments and exams. It is tough to manage screen time as teachers and students are stressed out almost every day. Many retail stores have turned into online stores for the sales using apps for their own brand. Automotive Industry truly became hybrid whereas apparel businesses started putting up apps and websites and offered customers to create their own attire on the virtual platforms.

In the new normal situations of hybrid working model, now it would be expected by the employees to have flexibility of WFH along with on-site office work.

Overall, it was a very useful and informative session. It actually provided insights on the practical aspects of the present situation and all the attendees benefitted from it.
