NATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY

National Pollution Control Day is celebrated every year to commemorate Bhopal Gas Tragedy which happened on 2nd December 1984. The School of Business and Management (MBA) Celebrated National Pollution Control Day in CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus.

During the day the students visited both Central and MBA block and made students aware of the significance of Pollution Control Day. They had also created posters related to the main theme. The event started with a silent prayer followed by Ronit Kumar’s welcome speech. He invited Fr Director Jossy P George to address the gathering. Fr Jossy spoke out the responsibility of the students to make others aware of the long-term effects of using plastics and appreciated the sincere efforts of the MBA students. Lalitha Choudhary thanked Fr Jossy and gave a short speech about pollution and its huge impact on future generations.

She requested everyone to take steps to prevent Mother Earth from being destroyed. There were three videos shown on the occasion. The first short video was about the Bhopal Gas Tragedy documented by famous photographer Raghu Rai. The second video was on carbon emission and various facts related to it. After that Dr Becky Thomas, the HoD of School of Business & Management (MBA), was invited to speak a few words. She explained to the students the need to control pollution and how all of us are responsible for it together. The last movie shown was ‘A Story of Tomorrow: Carbon.’ The movie was about what our future will look like if we do not take care of the planet now and how difficult it will be to survive because oxygen will be a scarce resource.

The event ended with Dr Jayant Mahajan’s thought-provoking speech. He asked a question, “How do we solve the problem of “economy & environment”? Should we focus on economic growth and environmental conservation?” and stated that the answer to this question might come later and everyone needs to think about it. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ronit Kumar who thanked all the dignitaries, the faculty members, and the IIC student body. With this, the event ended on a good note.

IIC had a hospitality team that ensured all the students were well seated and settled. The hospitality team stood throughout the event to ensure the smooth functioning of the different parts of the events. The main highlight of the event was how we as responsible citizens can contribute to pollution control.
