QBRONZE MONSOON SCHOOL

According to Jensen Huang (CEO, Nvidia), "The long-held notion that the processing power of computers increases exponentially every couple of years has hit its limit," which implies that Moor's Law is reaching a plateau. New computing paradigms are evolving. Quantum computing is one such paradigm that is gaining popularity and generating interest in the world of computing and business alike. Quantum computers can simultaneously represent data using multiple states, enabling them to compute exponentially faster than traditional computers.

Center for Emerging Business Technologies (CEBT) hosted by the School of Business and Management (MBA) in collaboration QWorld and QIndia has organized a month-long Quantum Monsoon School from 11th September 2021 to 3rd Oct 2021 in CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus. This Monsoon school has compromised of 3 part guest lecture series helmed by Mr Mritunjoy Ghosh (Principal HCL Quantum Technology Group), Mr Alex Khan(Consultant Aligned LLC) and Mr L Venkat Subramaniam (IBM Quantum Ambassador). Mentors for the workshop have volunteered to teach from different universities of the world like Rishi Sreedhar.Chalmers University, Sweden, Rajiv Krishna Kumar - Stanford University, USA, Ameya Nambisan - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, Rijul Sachdeva - ForschungszentrunJülich, Germany, Jyoti Faujdar - IIT Jodhpur, Akash Kundu - Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics – Poland, Salini Karuvade - University of Calgary and Sriram Gopalakrishnan - Institute of Quantum Computing – Canada.

Q-Bronze is Q-World’s introductory level workshop series (16 to 20 hours) which is designed for introducing the basics of quantum computing and quantum programming for quantum computing enthusiasts. This course is a blend of theoretical inputs along with hands-on exercises and doubt solving sessions guided by a mentor. Q-Bronze is a collection of Jupyter notebooks, consisting of various programming tasks to provide hands-on experiences. The bronze-Qiskit session is implemented on the Qiskit framework provided by IBM. It was released in February 2021 with the support of IBM Quantum.

Focus Areas

The entire Q-Bronze workshop was segregated into five focus areas (3-4 hrs each) concluding with a hands-on session.
  • Focus Area 1 - Basics of classical systems (Probabilistic bits, coin-flipping, biased coins, probabilistic states, and probabilistic operators, correlation).

  • Focus Area 2 -Basics of quantum systems (Quantum programs as circuits: registers, gates, measurements, execution, and reading the outcomes, quantum state and operators).

  • Focus Area 3 - Quantum operators on a quantum bit.

  • Focus Area 4 - Entanglement and basics quantum protocols.

  • Focus Area 5 - Quantum search algorithm.
