Peitho Cup 2025 Inter-University Debate Competition
The Peitho Cup 2025 – Inter University Debate Championship was a landmark celebration of intellect, persuasion, and academic excellence at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus – The Hub of Analytics. Organized by the Debate and Literary Society of the Student Bar Association under the School of Law, in collaboration with the Centre for Competitive Examinations (CCE), the event was guided by the inspiring motto “Where Wisdom Wins and Persuasion Becomes Power.”
Held in two phases, the online preliminary rounds were conducted on the 6th and 7th of September 2025, followed by the offline rounds on the 27th and 28th of September at the Lavasa Campus. The championship attracted 32 teams from leading universities across India. The preliminary online rounds, conducted across four panels, were evaluated by distinguished judges, leading to the shortlisting of 16 teams for the final offline rounds.
The scenic Lavasa campus came alive with intellectual energy as the Octa Finals and Quarter Finals took place on the first day of the offline rounds. The debates featured high-quality arguments on pressing legal, ethical, and social issues, with participants displaying analytical precision and persuasive flair. The day concluded with a vibrant Cultural Night, celebrating collaboration, creativity, and camaraderie among participants and volunteers alike.The Semi Finals and Grand Finals were held on the 28th of September 2025, graced by the esteemed presence of Justice J. Chelameswar, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, who served as Chief Guest and Judge for the Final Round. Renowned for his integrity and commitment to judicial reform, Justice Chelameswar’s participation added immense prestige to the event and inspired students to uphold the ideals of ethical advocacy and intellectual rigor. After a series of tightly contested rounds, BITS Mumbai emerged as the Champions of the Peitho Cup 2025, while VIT Chennai claimed the position of Runners-Up, marking a fitting conclusion to an event defined by excellence and eloquence.The distinguished panel of judges included Anish Shekar Tore (Assistant Professor, Ashoka University), Dr. V. Lenin Kumar (Assistant Professor, MIT-WPU), Dr. Bhushan Sawant (Assistant Professor, MIT ADT), and Adv. Aleena Anabelly (High Court of Kerala). Their insightful adjudications and feedback helped participants refine their reasoning, argumentation, and delivery, making the event both competitive and educational.The event was meticulously coordinated under the guidance of Assistant Professor Kalpesh Dilip Patkar, the Faculty Coordinator and Chief Organizer, with the support of Dr. Anto Sebastian, Head of the Department, School of Law. The success of the Peitho Cup 2025 was made possible through the dedication of its core student leaders — Annriya Liz Siji (Convenor, Debate and Literary Society) and Rhea Eleanor Rhine (Co-Convenor, Debate and Literary Society), along with Suryank Singh (Convenor, CCE) and Sanskriti Singh (Co-Convenor, CCE). Together, they led a team of over 40 student volunteers, ensuring the seamless organization and execution of the event from start to finish.
Reflecting the university’s values of inclusivity, sustainability, and social awareness, the event ensured equal participation across genders, adopted eco-friendly practices through digital coordination, and encouraged debates on issues of justice, governance, and human rights. It thus aligned with CHRIST University’s mission to nurture ethically grounded, socially responsible, and intellectually capable individuals.
