Intergenerational Bonding Session on 6th February 2026

Across generations, stories, values, and lived experiences form a bridge that connects people in profound and meaningful ways. Recognizing the importance of these connections, the School of Psychological Sciences at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, organized a One-Day Awareness and Sensitization Programme on Promoting Intergenerational Bonding on 6th February January 2025.

The initiative is part of an ongoing five-month Intergenerational Bonding Series, designed to foster empathy, emotional understanding, and mutual respect between young adults and senior citizens. This month’s programme brought together 80 enthusiastic BBA students and 22 elder community members, creating a warm, reflective space where generations could engage in dialogue, share stories, and appreciate the richness of collective wisdom.

The event was graced by Academic Coordinator Fr. Justin P. Varghese and Dr. Parmeswaran S, Associate Dean of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa.

The day-long programme was held at the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Management Block, and comprised four thoughtfully curated sessions facilitated by distinguished resource persons.

Inauguration and Welcome Address – Ms. Victoria Abhilasha

Ms. Victoria Abhilasha commenced the event with a heartfelt and thoughtful welcome address, presenting the day as a chance to explore the significance of Intergenerational Bonding. Her words established a compassionate atmosphere, inspiring participants to engage with openness and genuine curiosity.

Session 1: Understanding Intergenerational Values – Dr. Amit Seth

Dr. Amit Seth led an engaging session exploring generational differences, shared values, and the role of empathy in strengthening intergenerational relationships. Through case studies and interactive role-plays, he guided students in examining how perspectives shaped by age and experience influence family dynamics and communication.

Session 2: Breaking Stereotypes and Building Bridges – Ms. Victoria Abhilasha

In this reflective session, Ms. Victoria addressed common stereotypes surrounding aging and youth. Participants discussed how tradition, cultural expectations, and rapid technological changes contribute to generational misunderstandings. The session encouraged participants to replace assumptions with understanding and dialogue.

Session 3: Positive Outcomes of Intergenerational Bonding – Dr. Jibrael Jos

Dr. Jibrael Jos highlighted the emotional, psychological, and social benefits of intergenerational interactions. He emphasized how such engagement reduces loneliness among elders, nurtures gratitude and emotional maturity in youth, and fosters a strong sense of community belonging in both groups.

Session 4: Dialogue with Senior Community Members – Facilitated by Ms. Lama Abbas

The final session, facilitated by Ms. Lama Abbas, brought students and 23 senior citizens together for heartfelt conversations. Participants exchanged personal stories, reflected on life experiences, and discovered shared emotions that transcended age. The session also included a short 15 minutes informative session on Cyber Security for elderly by the South Indian Bank team.

The atmosphere was warm and genuine, reinforcing the theme “Seeing Beyond Us and Them.” It concluded with feedback sharing, group photographs, and a high tea that further strengthened the sense of connection.

The Intergenerational Bonding Programme held on 6th February 2026 was a deeply enriching experience that transformed simple conversations into bridges of understanding. By creating space for stories, wisdom, and shared humanity, the event fostered empathy, inclusivity, and mutual respect among participants.

The programme not only celebrated the beauty of intergenerational relationships but also highlighted the need to preserve and nurture these bonds in a rapidly evolving world. Through initiatives like these, CHRIST University continues to uphold its commitment to emotional intelligence, social harmony, and compassionate community engagement — reaffirming that meaningful connections across generations contribute profoundly to a kinder and more cohesive society.
