Workshop on Mobile App Development

The Department of Commerce at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a Workshop on Mobile App Development on 06 March 2026 at the Computer Lab, Central Block. The workshop was conducted specifically for students of the Department of Commerce with the objective of introducing them to the fundamentals of mobile application development and highlighting the growing relevance of digital technology in today’s business environment. With the increasing integration of technology in commerce, finance, and entrepreneurship, the session aimed to provide students with a practical understanding of how mobile applications can support business innovation and digital service delivery.

The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Alwin Joseph, Assistant Professor, School of Sciences, who served as the resource person for the session. During the workshop, he introduced students to the essential concepts of mobile app development, including the basic structure of mobile applications, app design principles, and commonly used development tools. The session also provided an overview of the mobile application ecosystem and how digital platforms are transforming the way businesses interact with customers, deliver services, and manage operations.

A significant highlight of the workshop was the hands-on learning component, where students were guided step-by-step through the process of developing a basic Android application. Using development tools and prompt-based coding approaches, students were able to understand how mobile applications are structured and how different features can be integrated within an app. The interactive nature of the session allowed students to actively participate in the development process rather than only learning the theory behind it.

Throughout the session, the resource person demonstrated how mobile applications can be used in various business and commerce-related contexts, such as digital payments, customer engagement platforms, e-commerce solutions, and productivity tools. Students also explored the possibilities of using mobile applications for entrepreneurial initiatives and innovative business ideas. The workshop therefore helped bridge the gap between technology and commerce education, enabling students to see how digital tools can enhance business efficiency and customer experience.

Another important aspect of the workshop was the emphasis on creativity and problem-solving. Students were encouraged to think about real-life problems that could be addressed through simple mobile applications. As part of the activity, a few students even developed basic applications such as a To-Do List app, demonstrating their understanding of the development process. This practical exposure helped students build confidence in their ability to work with new technologies.

Overall, the workshop was highly engaging and informative, providing students with valuable exposure to the world of mobile application development. It contributed to enhancing their digital literacy, technical awareness, and innovative thinking, which are increasingly important skills in today’s technology-driven business landscape. The initiative also reflects the department’s commitment to integrating interdisciplinary and technology-oriented learning opportunities within commerce education. The session successfully encouraged students to explore technology-driven solutions and consider how digital tools can be leveraged in the fields of commerce, finance, and entrepreneurship.
