Zero Discrimination Day
Zero Discrimination Day is observed globally to emphasize the importance of equality, fairness, and respect for all individuals regardless of their background or identity. In alignment with these values, the Centre for Counselling & Health Services (CCHS), in collaboration with the MacGuffin Club, organized a film screening and reflective discussion to encourage awareness, empathy, and inclusive thinking among students at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus.
The event began with a brief introductory discussion highlighting the significance of Zero Discrimination Day and the importance of creating inclusive spaces within society and the campus community. Students were encouraged to reflect on how discrimination can manifest in subtle and everyday ways and how awareness and empathy can help foster respect for diverse identities and experiences. This introduction helped set the context for the film screening and prepared participants to engage more thoughtfully with the themes presented in the film.
The event then featured the screening of All We Imagine as Light, a thought-provoking film that explores themes of identity, belonging, human connection, and the subtle ways discrimination can influence everyday experiences. Through nuanced storytelling and realistic portrayals, the film invited students to reflect on the complexities of social relationships and the importance of compassion and understanding in diverse communities.
Following the screening, a guided reflective discussion session was conducted to facilitate dialogue among students. The session created a respectful platform for participants to discuss discrimination in its various forms, including those based on gender, socio-economic background, language, culture, mental health, and other aspects of identity. Students were encouraged to share perspectives and engage in thoughtful conversations about equality and human dignity.By combining film as a storytelling medium with reflective dialogue, the initiative encouraged critical thinking and empathy among participants. The event highlighted how everyday attitudes and actions contribute to either inclusion or exclusion within social spaces.
Overall, the program served as a meaningful platform for promoting awareness, empathy, and social responsibility, encouraging students to actively contribute toward building a more inclusive campus community.
