From Shot to Story

The workshop titled “From Shot to Story”, organized by the Christ University, Pune Lavasa Campus, in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Learning and the Focus Photography Club, was successfully conducted on 13th March 2026 at 5:00 PM in the Smart Room, Central Block. The session aimed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of cinematography and enhance their visual storytelling skills. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of CDL & photography club who were keen to explore the art of filmmaking and visual narration. The workshop began with an engaging introduction to cinematography, where participants were familiarized with the basic concepts such as framing, composition, lighting, and camera movements. The speaker emphasized how every shot contributes to storytelling and how technical aspects blend with creativity to create impactful visuals.

One of the key highlights of the session was the practical approach adopted by the resource person. Instead of limiting the session to theory, participants were shown real-time examples and demonstrations using professional equipment. This hands-on exposure helped students understand the importance of camera angles, shot sizes, and movement in conveying emotions and meaning within a frame. The demonstration of equipment also gave participants a clearer understanding of how industry tools function in real-world scenarios.

The session was highly interactive, encouraging students to actively participate by asking questions and sharing their perspectives. Various activities and discussions were incorporated to keep the audience engaged and to ensure better understanding of the concepts. Participants were also given insights into how to plan a shoot, build a narrative, and execute ideas effectively using minimal resources.

Another important aspect covered during the workshop was the transition from a single shot to a complete story. The speaker explained how sequencing, continuity, and editing play a crucial role in shaping a narrative. This helped participants connect the technical aspects of cinematography with the broader concept of storytelling, making the learning experience more comprehensive.

The workshop also provided a platform for students to network with like-minded individuals who share an interest in photography and videography. It fostered collaboration and inspired participants to explore creative opportunities within the field of digital media. The involvement of the Focus Photography Club added value to the event by creating a space for aspiring photographers and filmmakers to learn and grow together.

Overall, the event was a great success, achieving its objective of equipping students with foundational knowledge of cinematography. It not only enhanced their technical skills but also encouraged them to think creatively and tell stories through visuals. The workshop left participants motivated to experiment with their ideas and apply the concepts learned in their future projects.
