Investiture Ceremony of the Student Welfare Office

The Investiture Ceremony of the Student Welfare Office (SWO) for the academic year 2026–27 was organised to formally welcome and recognise the newly appointed student leaders who would be taking up various responsibilities within the Student Welfare Office. The ceremony marked the beginning of a new term of student leadership and provided an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment, potential and responsibilities entrusted to the newly appointed Heads, Sub-Heads and other student leaders. The event emphasised that leadership is not merely about holding a position but about serving the student community with responsibility, integrity, commitment and teamwork.

The ceremony commenced with a formal introduction, followed by the parade of the newly appointed student leaders and the invocation song. These proceedings created a formal and dignified atmosphere and symbolised the beginning of a new chapter for the student leadership team. The presence of university authorities, faculty members, alumni and student leaders further highlighted the importance of the occasion and the role of student leadership in contributing to the university community.

The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Bharath A Manoj, who extended a warm welcome to the Fathers, Heads of Departments, alumni, SWO faculty members, Heads and Sub-Heads. The address highlighted the significance of student leadership and the responsibility entrusted to the newly appointed leaders. It also reinforced the importance of active participation, coordination and maintaining a positive relationship with students, faculty members and fellow leaders.

A significant part of the ceremony was the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the presence of the Fathers, SWO faculty members and student leaders. The lighting of the lamp symbolised knowledge, guidance, responsibility and the beginning of a new journey. It served as a reminder to the newly appointed leaders that their responsibilities should be guided by positive values and a commitment to the welfare of the student community.

The SWO Officers’ Address by Ms. Pritty Jain focused on the broader meaning of student leadership and the responsibilities associated with it. The address highlighted values such as leadership, belongingness, community, personal growth, responsibility, coordination and motivation. The newly appointed leaders were encouraged to look beyond their individual positions and understand their role in creating a supportive and inclusive student environment. The importance of teamwork and coordination among different committees was also emphasised, as the successful functioning of the SWO depends on collective effort and effective communication.

The address by Dean/Director Father Lijo Thomas further reinforced the importance of responsibility in leadership. The newly appointed leaders were reminded that leadership comes with accountability and that their actions can influence the experiences of their fellow students. They were encouraged to approach their roles with sincerity, discipline and commitment while understanding leadership as an opportunity to contribute rather than simply a position of authority.

Student Affairs Coordinator Father Peter M. V. highlighted the three important principles of Integrity, Service and Excellence. These values provided a framework for the newly appointed leaders as they began their responsibilities for the academic year. Integrity encourages honesty, transparency and accountability in decision-making; Service emphasises contributing towards the welfare of the student community; and Excellence encourages leaders to continuously improve their efforts and maintain high standards in their responsibilities.

The ceremony also provided the newly appointed leaders with an opportunity to understand the expectations associated with student leadership. Their roles require them to coordinate with different teams, communicate effectively, support their members and manage responsibilities while maintaining a balance with their academic commitments. The event therefore served not only as a formal recognition ceremony but also as a platform for reinforcing the values and expectations that would guide the leaders throughout the academic year.

The participation of university authorities, faculty members and alumni also strengthened the connection between student leaders and the wider university community. Their presence demonstrated institutional support for student-led initiatives and reinforced the importance of student participation in the development of campus life. The ceremony created a sense of continuity between previous and current student leaders while motivating the newly appointed team to contribute meaningfully to the SWO.

Overall, the SWO Investiture Ceremony 2026–27 successfully marked the formal commencement of the new student leadership term. The event brought together university authorities, faculty members, alumni and student leaders to recognise and celebrate the beginning of a new leadership journey. Through the various addresses and ceremonial proceedings, the event reinforced the values of Integrity, Service, Excellence, Responsibility, Belongingness, Collaboration and Personal Growth. It provided the newly appointed leaders with a clear understanding of the trust placed in them and encouraged them to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and accountability.

The ceremony thus served as a strong foundation for the newly appointed SWO leaders as they begin their responsibilities for the academic year 2026–27. It highlighted that effective student leadership is built on service, teamwork, responsibility and a genuine commitment to the student community, setting the tone for a productive and meaningful year of student leadership.
