Reimagine Yourself: Growth, Resilience & AI
Stepping onto a university campus marked a monumental chapter filled with new environments, elevated academic expectations, and personal discovery for incoming students. To help freshers navigate this crucial transition with confidence, the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Department of Computer Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) hosted an insightful two-day program titled “Reimagine Yourself: Growth, Resilience & AI”. Organized on September 25–26, 2026, in the Smart Room, Central Block, the initiative served as both an academic counselling session and a career guidance program tailored specifically for first-year students. Grounded in global priorities, the event was strategically mapped to align with key Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8).
At its core, the workshop was designed to equip students with essential emotional and analytical tools needed for long-term personal and academic success. Through interactive sessions and structured reflection, participants engaged in building self-awareness by identifying their core values, personal identity, and individual strengths. The workshop placed a strong emphasis on emotional resilience, offering students practical coping strategies to manage campus life, academic pressure, and unexpected setbacks effectively. Furthermore, the curriculum introduced structured problem-solving and decision-making frameworks to help students navigate challenges with clarity. Crucially, the sessions demystified the expanding role of Artificial Intelligence, highlighting how students could ethically and purposefully leverage AI tools to support their learning, career planning, and daily decision-making.
Guiding students through this transformational experience was distinguished industry expert Abdul Kareem MA, Lead Software Engineer at JP Morgan Chase & Co.. Bringing over 13 years of expertise in programming and UI design, Kareem combined technical leadership with extensive academic mentorship, having served as a visiting faculty member at Christ University since 2018. Adding a uniquely engaging dynamic to the sessions, Kareem—an active member of the Bangalore Stand-Up Comedy Club—infused his talks with humor, making complex topics like design thinking, career strategy, and personal adaptability highly relatable. The program was successfully organized under the leadership of faculty in-charges Vandana Yadav and Avichal Sharma.
The interactive nature of the workshop was further enriched by Abdul Kareem’s extensive academic background, holding an MCA from Christ University and a BCA from Mangalore University, along with teaching roles across Santhigiri B-School and Christ College, Malur. His real-world experience at JP Morgan Chase & Co. allowed him to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry requirements, giving students practical insights into placement preparation, data analytics, and design thinking. By addressing both personal development and career readiness, the session empowered attendees to embrace their university journey as a continuous process of self-transformation and academic excellence.
Ultimately, “Reimagine Yourself” successfully shifted the first-year perspective from an overwhelming adjustment period into an empowering journey of growth and transformation. Participants left the two-day event with practical coping techniques, heightened technological awareness, and a clear roadmap for achieving their academic and career aspirations. By seamlessly blending emotional intelligence with modern digital skills, the workshop ensured that first-year students established a strong, resilient foundation for their entire university journey. The event proved to be a resounding success, inspiring students to approach their academic future with newfound confidence, adaptability, and vision.
