Bhaashadaan 7.0

The Department of English and Cultural Studies, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Action, conducted a Bhashadaan awareness session as part of its community engagement and social concern initiative for students of Classes 6, 7, and 8 at Dasave Public School. The session was designed to introduce young learners to the concept of Bhashadaan and to create awareness about the importance of language preservation, translation, and digital participation in today’s increasingly interconnected world. Since the participants were middle school students, the session content and activities were carefully adapted to suit their age group, ensuring that the concepts were communicated in a simple, engaging, and interactive manner.

The session began with a relatable and practical demonstration illustrating how translation tools help people communicate across different languages. Students were shown examples of how individuals who speak different languages can understand each other through digital translation platforms and language-based technologies. This introductory activity immediately captured the students’ attention, as it connected the idea of language accessibility to situations they could easily relate to in their daily lives. Through these examples, students were able to understand how language functions not only as a means of communication but also as a bridge that connects people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Following the demonstration, students were introduced to the concept of Bhashadaan and its role in preserving and promoting linguistic diversity through digital platforms. The discussion highlighted how many regional and indigenous languages often remain underrepresented in digital spaces and how initiatives like Bhashadaan encourage people to contribute to the growth and visibility of languages online. The explanation focused on helping students recognize the relationship between language, identity, culture, and technology. By presenting the ideas in a simplified and interactive format, the session encouraged students to think about the significance of their own languages and the value of preserving them for future generations.

To maintain enthusiasm and active participation throughout the session, several interactive activities were conducted using tools such as “Suno” and “Dekho.” These activities transformed the learning experience into a collaborative and enjoyable process. Students enthusiastically participated in group-based tasks, games, and discussions that allowed them to apply what they had learned in a creative and engaging manner. The use of interactive methods not only sustained the students’ interest but also helped reinforce key concepts in a memorable way.

The session concluded with an oral feedback segment where students shared their thoughts and reflected on their learning experience. Many students expressed curiosity about languages and digital tools, while others shared how the activities helped them better understand the importance of communication across linguistic differences. Overall, the Bhashadaan awareness session was successful in creating awareness among young learners while ensuring meaningful engagement, participation, and age-appropriate understanding. The initiative effectively combined education, technology, and social responsibility, encouraging students to view language as an important cultural and digital resource.
