Workshop on Mathematical & Logical Reasoning for Competitive Exams

The Department of Statistics & Data Science and the Department of Computer Science jointly organized a workshop on “Mathematical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning for Competitive Exams” for the first-year BCA and BSc Computer Science Data Science students on 7th May 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The session was conducted by Dr Prathu Bhajpai, who shared valuable insights and problem-solving techniques related to competitive examinations and placement aptitude tests.

The workshop aimed to equip students with essential mathematical and logical reasoning skills that are commonly tested in various competitive examinations, placement aptitude tests, and higher education entrance examinations. The session witnessed active participation from the students, who showed great enthusiasm in understanding different strategies to solve aptitude-based questions quickly and accurately.

During the session, Dr. Prathu Bhajpai covered a variety of important mathematical topics such as percentages, ratios and proportions, averages, profit and loss, number systems, simplification techniques, and speed-time-distance problems. Along with mathematical reasoning, the session also focused extensively on logical reasoning concepts including coding-decoding, series completion, analytical reasoning, pattern recognition, blood relations, and puzzles. Special emphasis was given to shortcut methods, time-saving techniques, and logical approaches that could help students improve their speed and accuracy during examinations.

The workshop was highly interactive, with the resource person engaging students through practical examples, live problem-solving exercises, and short aptitude challenges. Students were encouraged to actively participate and attempt questions independently before discussing the solutions. The interactive nature of the session helped students gain confidence in approaching aptitude and reasoning problems systematically.

Dr. Prathu Bhajpai also highlighted the importance of consistent practice, time management, and analytical thinking while preparing for competitive examinations. He motivated students to start preparing for aptitude tests from their first year itself so that they would be better prepared for future placement opportunities and competitive exams. The session also provided guidance on how students can improve their reasoning abilities through regular practice and exposure to different types of questions.

The workshop proved to be highly beneficial for the participants as it provided them with a clear understanding of the importance of mathematical and logical reasoning in career development and placement preparation. Students appreciated the practical tips and strategies shared during the session and expressed that the workshop helped them understand effective methods to solve aptitude questions with greater ease.

The workshop was informative, engaging, and successful in achieving its objective of strengthening the aptitude and reasoning skills of the students. The Departments of Statistics & Data Science and Computer Science expressed their gratitude to Dr. Prathu Bhajpai for conducting an insightful and motivating session for the students.
