Guest Lecture on Core Principles and Structures of IPR

The Department of Commerce at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, also known as The Hub of Analytics, organized an insightful guest lecture on "Core Principles and Structures of IPR" on 28th February 2025. The session was scheduled from 03:30 PM to 04:20 PM and took place in Room No. 2225, Management Block. The guest speaker for the event was Ms. Anila K, an Assistant Professor from the School of Law at CHRIST (Deemed to be University).

The lecture provided students and participants with an in-depth understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), emphasizing its core principles and structural aspects. IPR plays a critical role in safeguarding creativity, fostering innovation, and ensuring legal protection for inventors, businesses, and creative professionals. The session covered fundamental aspects of patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and geographical indications, explaining their relevance in different industries. Participants were introduced to the legal frameworks governing intellectual property at national and international levels, as well as their impact on businesses and individuals.

Ms. Anila K, an expert in legal studies, elaborated on the importance of IPR in the modern economy and how intellectual property laws serve as a driving force for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She highlighted the significance of IP protection in an increasingly digital world, where ideas and creations are more vulnerable to infringement. She also discussed various case studies, illustrating how businesses and individuals have benefitted from strong intellectual property laws and, conversely, the consequences of IPR violations.

The lecture addressed key legal concepts, international treaties, regulatory policies, and enforcement mechanismsthat govern intellectual property. The session also covered recent developments in IPR laws, including changes in patent filing procedures, copyright protection for digital content, and the role of artificial intelligence in intellectual property generation. Students were encouraged to explore the intersection of IPR with emerging technologies, such as blockchain, NFTs, and AI-generated content, which present both opportunities and challenges in the legal landscape.

As part of the Department of Commerce’s academic initiatives, this guest lecture aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications of intellectual property laws. The event was particularly beneficial for students pursuing careers in commerce, law, business, and entrepreneurship, as understanding IPR is essential for protecting business ideas, securing patents, and maintaining competitive advantages in the global market.

During the interactive segment, participants engaged in discussions and Q&A sessions, where they raised questions about real-world implications of IPR in various industries, including technology, media, pharmaceuticals, and startups. Ms. Anila K provided insightful responses, clarifying doubts regarding patent filing procedures, fair use policies, licensing agreements, and infringement lawsuits.

The session concluded on a positive note, with students and faculty members appreciating the valuable insights shared by the speaker. The lecture successfully enhanced participants' awareness of intellectual property laws and their importance in a knowledge-driven economy.

The Department of Commerce at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) continues its commitment to interdisciplinary learning, organizing lectures and academic discussions that enrich students' knowledge and prepare them for real-world challenges.
