Mélange’25, the third edition of
Christ University’s flagship Model United Nations (MUN) conference, was held on
the 17th and 18th of February 2025, bringing together over 100 participants for
two days of intensive debates and diplomatic discussions. With the theme
“Charting the Past, Shaping the Future,” the conference aimed to encourage
delegates to analyze historical contexts while formulating innovative solutions
for contemporary global challenges.
The event commenced with the
Registration Desk opening at 8:00 AM, followed by the Flag Hoisting Ceremony at
9:30 AM, which symbolized unity and commitment among delegates. The Inaugural
Ceremony at 10:00 AM featured addresses by distinguished guests, faculty
members, and the Secretariat, setting the tone for the discussions ahead. Over
the course of two days, delegates engaged in meaningful deliberations across
various committees, tackling some of the most pressing global issues.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), chaired by Mr. Rushil
Pujari and vice-chaired by Mr. Aditya Kumar Singh, focused on the agenda
“Global Migration Governance – Fostering Multilateral Cooperation.” The
committee engaged in discussions on the challenges faced by migrants and the
role of Western Europe and North America in shaping migration policies.
Delegates deliberated on strategies to strengthen international frameworks,
enhance humanitarian aid, and address geopolitical tensions affecting
migration.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC), led by Chairperson Mr.
Iklavya Dev and Vice-Chairperson Ms. Shabeen, deliberated on “Reinforcing
Global Security and Strengthening the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).” The
discussions revolved around the geopolitical challenges in Asia and the Middle
East, focusing on nuclear disarmament, regional security, and the role of
global powers in enforcing non-proliferation agreements.
In the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), chaired by Mr.
Sarbanga Mishra and vice-chaired by Mr. Akshit Mohan, delegates engaged in
critical discussions on “Protection of Labour Rights in Global Supply Chains.”
The committee addressed exploitative labor practices, the lack of enforcement
mechanisms, and corporate accountability. The delegates explored solutions such
as international labor standards, ethical sourcing policies, and stricter
regulations to ensure fair wages and safe working conditions worldwide.

United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), led by Chairperson Mr.
Madhav Madaan and Vice-Chairperson Mr. Vedanth Lokesh, examined “Addressing the
Socio-Economic Consequences of Climate Change in Small Island Developing States
and Arctic Regions.” Delegates focused on the disproportionate impact of
climate change on vulnerable regions, discussing strategies for resilience
building, sustainable development, and economic adaptation. The session brought
forward recommendations on international funding mechanisms, and policy reforms
to mitigate the socio-economic effects of environmental changes.

The G20 Summit, chaired by Mr. Pratham Golcha and vice-chaired by Ms.
Pratyancha Sinha, tackled the critical issue of “Global Food Insecurity –
Strategies for Resource Equity and Collaborative Action.” Delegates examined
the root causes of food shortages in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin
America, debating the role of agricultural policies, international trade, and
climate change in worsening the crisis. The committee emphasized the importance
of sustainable agricultural practices, fair trade agreements, and international
aid programs to combat global hunger and ensure food security.
The All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM), under the leadership of
Ms. Gauravi Dubey and Mr. Rishabh Kumar Singh, discussed “Preserving
Secularism, Free Speech, and Combating Religious Extremism and Authoritarianism
in India.” Delegates representing various political ideologies debated on the
current political climate, the challenges of upholding democratic values, and
the measures required to protect constitutional rights. The discussions
highlighted concerns over press freedom, communal harmony, and the balance
between national security and individual freedoms.
The International Press (IP), led by Ms. Tanishka Singh, played a
crucial role in covering the proceedings of the conference. The press team
documented key discussions, conducted interviews, and provided real-time
updates, ensuring transparency and engagement beyond the committee rooms.
As Mélange’25 came to a close, it was evident that
the conference had successfully fostered intellectual exchange, leadership, and
global cooperation among participants. The deliberations across all committees
were thought-provoking and solution-oriented, equipping delegates with a deeper
understanding of international affairs, policy-making, and negotiation skills.
The event was a testament to the power of diplomacy, critical thinking, and
collaboration in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.
