Industry Certification Program by Grant Thornton

The Department of Commerce successfully conducted an industry certification program for all its students, encompassing those enrolled in the B Com Financial Analytics and MSc Global Financial Analytics programs. The initiative aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills, fostering their employability and readiness for dynamic financial and business environments. The total batch size for the program was 194 students, and the courses covered various essential aspects of financial and business analytics, as well as financial modelling and valuation.

Course Structure and Delivery

The industry certification program was structured to offer a comprehensive learning experience. Each course had a total duration of 30 hours, ensuring a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical application. The course delivery was divided into:

  • 20 hours of offline sessions, which were conducted in an interactive manner, allowing students to engage directly with industry experts and subject matter specialists (SMEs).
  • 10 hours of asynchronous assignments, where students worked independently on structured exercises and case studies to reinforce their understanding.

This blended learning approach was highly effective in bridging the gap between academic concepts and industry applications, allowing students to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and techniques.

Assessment and Certification Process

To successfully complete the certification, all students were required to undergo an assessment test at the end of their respective courses. The assessment aimed to evaluate their grasp of the course content and their ability to apply the learned concepts in real-world financial and analytical scenarios. The certification was awarded based on their performance, thereby validating their acquired skills and competencies.

Feedback and Observations

The topics covered in the certification program were found to be highly engaging and beneficial for students. Many students appreciated the relevance of the courses, particularly in preparing them for data-driven financial decision-making and business intelligence roles. Furthermore, the subject matter experts (SMEs) provided positive feedback regarding the students’ enthusiasm and active participation, especially during the practical sessions. Their engagement in hands-on exercises demonstrated a keen interest in learning and applying analytical tools effectively.

The industry certification program was a resounding success, providing students with industry-relevant skills, practical exposure, and a strong foundation in financial analytics, business intelligence, and financial modeling. The Department of Commerce remains committed to integrating such skill-enhancement programs into the curriculum, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the financial industry. Moving forward, similar initiatives will continue to be introduced to support the academic and professional growth of students.
