The International Conference on Complex Systems Modeling, Analysis & Applications (IC2SMA2 2025), jointly organized by CHRIST University, Pune Lavasa, India, and Binghamton University, State University of New York, USA, was a premier gathering of scholars and experts dedicated to advancing complex systems research. Held on February 21-22, 2025, the conference fostered intellectual exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and groundbreaking discussions on real-world applications of complex systems modeling and analysis.

Day 1: Opening Ceremony & Keynote Address

The conference commenced at 11:30 AM IST on February 21, 2025, with an invocation, followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge. Distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Lijo Thomas (Dean & Director), Fr. Justin P. Varghese (Academic Coordinator), and Dr. Preethi N (Chief Organizer) inaugurated the event.

Dr. Preethi N’s welcome speech emphasized academic collaboration, while Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas highlighted the growing significance of complex systems research in tackling global challenges. A video presentation showcased the collaboration between CHRIST University and Binghamton University, underscoring the importance of international partnerships.

The keynote address by Dr. Carlos Gershenson, a leading expert in complex systems, provided profound insights into their theoretical and practical applications, spanning economics, artificial intelligence, and beyond. His thought provoking session set the stage for engaging discussions.

Research Presentations & Interactive Discussions

Following a lunch break from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, researchers presented their findings, with each session comprising 12-minute presentations followed by a 3-minute Q & A. This format encouraged insightful discussions and constructive feedback, enriching the overall research experience. A tea break at 3:15 PM allowed for networking before the final presentations of the day.

Day 1 concluded with closing remarks, summarizing key discussions and preparing participants for the next day’s sessions.

Day 2: Research Highlights & Valedictory Session

The second day began at 9:30 AM IST with another round of paper presentations, unveiling innovative research and sparking engaging debates. A brief tea break preceded the much-anticipated valedictory session at 11:00 AM.

Dr. Abhijeet Birari welcomed attendees, expressing gratitude for their contributions. The valedictory address by Dr. Hiroki Sayama, a renowned scholar in complex systems, underscored the real-world impact of modeling and analysis in addressing global challenges. His insights resonated with attendees, reinforcing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Attendees reflected on key takeaways, emphasizing the conference’s role in expanding research horizons and fostering collaborations. The event concluded with Fr. Justin P. Varghese’s closing address, a vote of thanks by Dr. David Joseph, and the University Anthem, symbolizing shared commitment to advancing complex systems research.

CHRIST values instill an attitude of gratitude in the students and despite leaving the portals of the college they never fail to express their appreciation and keep the college well informed about their achievements.
