Effective Communication Skills: Tips for Academic & Career Growth
On 6th September 2025, the School of Business & Management (BBA) organized an Alumni Interaction session for the 2025 Batch of BBA students. The session, titled “Effective Communication Skills: Tips for Academic & Career Growth”, was designed as a skill enhancement initiative focusing on communication—a critical competency for management students. The invited alumni speakers were Mr. Rudranarayan Nayak (Supply Chain Executive, Acquirex) and Mr. Mayank Kumar Sahu (Research Intern, Skoda Volkswagen Group), both from the 2022 BBA Batch.
The session began with an emphasis on the importance of communication in both academic and professional contexts. The alumni shared that communication goes beyond fluency in language; it is about expressing ideas clearly, listening actively, and building meaningful connections. To make the session engaging, the speakers conducted interactive activities such as group discussions and impromptu speaking exercises, allowing students to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This participatory approach ensured that students were not passive listeners but active learners.
The alumni stressed how effective communication contributes to academic success in presentations, group projects, and class participation. They further highlighted its role in professional growth, especially in interviews, workplace collaboration, and leadership. Drawing from their professional journeys, both speakers explained how communication skills gave them an edge in navigating the transition from academics to industry.
Students were provided with practical tips to improve communication skills, including practicing active listening, focusing on clarity and conciseness, developing public speaking abilities, refining non-verbal communication, and seeking regular feedback for continuous improvement. The session also emphasized confidence building and networking as essential traits for BBA graduates to stand out during campus placements and in corporate settings.
The interaction witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 35 students, who engaged actively in discussions and activities. Many students expressed that the session helped them realize the importance of communication not just for career opportunities but also for personal growth. The practical orientation of the event ensured that students left with actionable strategies to enhance their skills. From an IQAC perspective, the session achieved its objectives by bridging academic learning with real-world applications, thereby contributing to the holistic development of students. It aligned with the University’s focus on experiential learning and employability skills, making students better prepared for future challenges. The event also reinforced the role of alumni as mentors and guides, strengthening the university’s culture of alumni engagement and peer learning.
In conclusion, the alumni interaction proved to be an impactful skill enhancement initiative that addressed a vital aspect of management education—effective communication. By connecting theory with practice, and academics with industry, the event significantly contributed to preparing students for both academic excellence and career success.
