Inaugural Ceremony for Senior Students of School of Science & School of Humanities and Performing Arts

The School of Sciences and the School of Humanities and Performing Arts organized the inaugural ceremony for senior students on August 25, 2025. Held in the Smart Room, Central Block, the event marked a significant milestone as students prepare to transition from academic life toward professional and personal pursuits. The event was thoughtfully designed to offer reflection, guidance, and motivation, helping seniors align their experiences with future opportunities and responsibilities.

The day commenced at 9:00 AM with students assembling in the Smart Room. An audio-visual presentation provided a comprehensive overview of campus resources, academic milestones, and career development opportunities available during their final year. Dr. Rimi Nandy, serving as the emcee, welcomed the students with opening remarks that set a positive and encouraging tone for the day’s proceedings, emphasizing the importance of embracing new challenges and making the most of their final year.

A key moment of the ceremony was the Lighting of the Lamp, symbolizing the enduring pursuit of knowledge and wisdom as students prepare to take on greater responsibilities. The ceremony was graced by the Dean and Director, Academic Coordinator, Associate Deans, Heads of Departments, and student representatives, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the institution and the shared commitment to academic and personal growth.

The spiritual segment of the programme began with an Introductory Prayer led by Fr. Justin P. Varghese, followed by Intercessory Prayers invoking blessings for the students’ well-being, success, and resilience. Selected faculty members presented readings from sacred scriptures—the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran, and the Bible—highlighting the university’s commitment to inclusivity and values-based education. Dr. Shine Raju offered a reflective passage from the writings of Blessed Chavara, encouraging students to contemplate their purpose and the deeper meaning of their academic journey. The segment concluded with a final prayer led by the Associate Dean, Dr. Parameswaran S., calling upon the entire university community to support the students in their endeavors.

Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas, Dean and Director, addressed the seniors students encouraging them to view challenges as opportunities, stay resilient in the face of setbacks, and commit to lifelong learning and personal development. In his speech, he also emphasized the important transition seniors are making into leadership roles and reminded them to actively serve as role models for their juniors by exemplifying responsibility, integrity, and supportive mentorship at every step.

Heads of Departments, Dr. Richa Srishti (Department of English & Cultural Studies, School of Humanities & Performing Arts) and Dr. Lija Jacob (Department of Science, School of Sciences), shared motivating messages aimed at encouraging students to leverage their final year fully. They emphasized proactive learning, curiosity-driven engagement, and the value of networking and interdisciplinary collaboration, inspiring students to step confidently into their careers and contribute meaningfully to both academic and professional communities.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Avichal Sharma, acknowledging the support of faculty, staff, and student leaders, and expressing gratitude for the collective effort that makes such events meaningful. The ceremony ended with the University Anthem and closing instructions by Dr. Rimi Nandy, reinforcing the sense of community and shared purpose as students embark on the next chapter of their journey with renewed confidence and determination.
