Academic Year Inauguration 2025-2026 (SBM)


The Academic Year Inauguration 2025–2026 for the School of Business and Management at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus and Pune City Campus, was conducted with much enthusiasm and solemnity on 4 August 2025 at the Multi-Purpose Hall. The event brought together students, faculty members, and university leaders to formally begin a new academic year marked with hope, inspiration, and a renewed commitment to learning.

The program commenced with an introduction by Prof. Tanya Sharma, who warmly welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the day’s proceedings. This was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Fr. Arun Antony, Director of CHRIST College Pune, who highlighted the significance of the inauguration as not just a ceremonial beginning but also a symbolic moment of unity, aspiration, and collective growth.

The atmosphere was further enriched by the traditional Lighting of the Lamp Ceremony, a ritual that signifies the triumph of knowledge over ignorance and the spread of wisdom. University leaders, dignitaries, and faculty members participated in this symbolic gesture, creating an ambience of solemnity and reverence.

To reflect the inclusive and multicultural ethos of CHRIST University, the inaugural session also featured prayers and readings from multiple faith traditions. Passages from the Bhagavad Gita, the Holy Quran, the Holy Bible, and the words of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara were read, affirming the university’s commitment to harmony, respect for diversity, and spiritual growth alongside academic excellence. The intercessory prayers, led by faculty members, added to the reflective mood of the event. The prayer segment concluded with a special blessing imparted by Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas, Dean and Director, encouraging students to begin the academic year under divine guidance and inspiration.

Following this, Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas addressed the gathering with an inspiring message. In his speech, he reminded students of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in their academic journey. He emphasized the importance of discipline, perseverance, and holistic development, urging students to balance their intellectual pursuits with ethical values and social responsibility. His words served as both a motivation and a guiding light for the students entering the new academic year.

The University Anthem was then rendered, uniting the audience in a shared sense of identity and belonging. This was followed by important announcements from Dr. Mohit Boralkar, who briefed the students on key academic and administrative aspects of the year ahead.

A major highlight of the program was the Industry Spotlight Session delivered by Mr. Joy George, Vice President – International HR and India Business Operations at OpenGov Inc. Drawing from his extensive professional experience, Mr. George shared valuable insights into current industry trends, global opportunities, and evolving skill demands in the field of management. His address gave students a practical perspective on how classroom learning connects with real-world expectations and inspired them to prepare themselves for careers that demand adaptability, innovation, and leadership.

The inauguration concluded on a note of celebration, inspiration, and anticipation. With its blend of tradition, spirituality, academic vision, and industry perspective, the event not only marked the beginning of the academic year but also motivated students to embark on their journey with renewed enthusiasm and commitment. The presence of distinguished leaders, faculty guidance, and industry expertise made the inauguration a memorable and meaningful occasion for the entire academic community.
