Books in Search of Readers
The Library & Information Center, in association with The Readers Club, successfully organized “Books in Search of Readers” on 28 August 2026 at the Amphitheatre, Management Block, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune–Lavasa Campus. The initiative was designed to bring books closer to students, faculty members, and staff by taking the library collection beyond its conventional space and creating an informal environment for book discovery and reading.
As part of the preparation, the Library & Information Center Team and The Readers Club jointly curated 374 books from the Central Library and Management Library. The collection included 164 books from the Central Library and 210 books from the Management Library. To make browsing easier and more engaging, the books were arranged into five reader-friendly categories: Psychology, Philosophy & Society; Books Adapted into Films; Business, Leadership & Personal Growth; Mystery, Crime & Thriller; and Fiction & Literature.
The five-hour event, held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., attracted approximately 200 participants from the university community. The carefully arranged displays encouraged visitors to browse books based on their personal interests rather than only academic requirements.
A key feature of the initiative was the integration of QR-based library services. QR codes provided convenient access to Readers Club Membership, Book Recommendations, OPAC, Knimbus, and different Readers Club interest categories. This combination of physical books and digital access created a convenient bridge between traditional library resources and online services. The eight student volunteers from The Readers Club played an important role in the success of the programme. They actively invited students to the venue, interacted with visitors, recommended books, explained Readers Club activities, and encouraged participants to explore the collection. Their peer-to-peer engagement helped create a welcoming and energetic atmosphere.
Another major highlight was the on-the-spot borrowing facility provided by the Library Team. Visitors could immediately select and borrow books according to their library privileges. As a result, 68 books were issued during the event, demonstrating the effectiveness of taking curated library resources directly to readers. The initiative also received positive responses from participants. Visitors appreciated the wide variety of books, thematic arrangement, accessible location, immediate borrowing facility, and QR-enabled services. The event provided an opportunity for readers to interact with books and library staff in a setting outside the conventional library environment.
The programme contributed to increased book circulation, greater awareness of library collections, enhanced reader engagement, and stronger participation in The Readers Club. It also demonstrated how student involvement can strengthen library outreach and promote reading among peers.
“Books in Search of Readers” successfully demonstrated the concept of “Library Beyond the Library.” By taking carefully selected books to a high-footfall campus location, the initiative reduced barriers between readers and resources and encouraged spontaneous book discovery. The collaboration between the Library & Information Center and The Readers Club provided a strong model for future reader-focused initiatives.
Overall, the event contributed to building a vibrant, accessible, and collaborative reading culture on campus and reinforced the Library’s role as an active space for discovery, engagement, learning, and lifelong reading.
